Shadow government approved in California

This is too much:

Sorry, kids. I tried.

The Brown Act has been gutted, not that they paid any attention to it recently!

Yeah, that's how they can get spending on items s.a. the high speed train, even though it was not voted by the people in the state, and has minimal public benefits...

Re: Shadow government approved in California

The article says they "suspended parts of the Brown act" but then doesn't mention how they did that. Anyone know if they passed special legislation or stuck it as a rider on some other bill? If so, what one? That's a pretty poorly written story to not include that information.

Edit: Did a bit of research. Here's a more clear explanation. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kennet...b_1707724.html

Sad thing is that it's never been LESS expensive for public bodies to comply with the public notice requirements. Everyone has a website and a copier. It's not like the law requires them to take out ads.

who heres has actually gone to thier city hall and read the meeting schedule's and whats on the agendas. Maybe they should use a donated monitor and do it digitally saving paper/money and the Brown Act. problem solved

Re: Shadow government approved in California

If anything, the Brown act should be updated to reflect exactly what you point out. Notice requirements should stand, just the dead-tree requirements should be replaced by online and digital public notice. Another important element of the Brown act was that it required notice of WHAT was being dealt with at particular meetings and required public bodies to limit themselves to action on those topics and to doing what they announced they would do.

ohhhhh man... this $*&^ never stops in this state. i just sent Governor Brown a piece of my mind, which will undoubtedly fall on deaf ears or become cause for them to remove some other system that gives "we the people" an opportunity to be heard. This state really is smoking crack
