God Speed Nicole Peters - Badass Speara and Free spirit

Suffice to say, I'm having one of those times in my life where God continues to test the fortitude of my heart. Quite a bit of Chaos in my life and I'm really doing the best I can to keep a handle on everything.... So God decides to throw me one more bit.... I get one of those phone calls.

Nicole Peters was a Santa Barbara based spearfishing gal. She was a well rounded athlete, a very successful business woman, an uninhibited free spirit for an undying love for the water. Wind surfing, mountain biking, boating, spearfishing, and best of all - I loved her as one of my best friends.

She was extremely talented. She and I had friendly competitions as to who would spear the next women's records. I get a big seabass, and then she blankets me with a 56 lb halibut. Never ceased to amaze me.

She passed away while mountain biking yesterday from a medical condition.

I know full well she will be very missed and was well loved by many people. She and I were supposed to go to Alaska together to chase big halibut and go hunting... she and I were supposed to go to Norway together to chase strange fish and cold water. She was one of the few gals I could even get interested in cold water...

She was one of the most beautiful people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I am physically sick right now knowing that she is gone. She was, in many ways other than diving, a kindred spirit and my sister from another mister.

She really exemplified living life to the fullest - every moment and every breath. Time moves differently when you think about every breath you take - and your live your life as if it were your last. It really makes you re-examine how you spend your life and your time. Other than love, time really is the most precious gift you can give someone. Nicole knew the value of time and the importance of living LIFE. If there is one thing I learned from her, its this; Live every moment of your life as if it were your last breath, and live each breath as if it were your last moment. Time is the most precious gift you can give, other than love. Cherish those who choose to give you both time and love. She did not say this verbatim, but each of those I love in my life teaches me something. She taught me that. Vividly.

God speed, Nicole. Dive in the most beautiful waters. I will always cherish your memory. Love ya, girl.

This is truly a huge loss for the spearfishing community and especially speara community.
I have never had the chance to meet Nicole but I had been blown away by some of the amazing catches that she has been pulling out this year. To say she was killing it was an understatement. She was a legend.

My deepest condolences to all her friends/family. What a tragic loss.

God does not throw bad or difficult things at us, thats the other camp.

At any rate, I did not know Nicole, but by the way you speak of her its clearly my loss our paths never crossed. I am so sorry for her family, and friends loss, she seemed like a very special person. I will pray that god comforts all of you during this very sad time.

I had the privilege to dive with Nicole a few times and not only was she an awesome diver, great captain, but a fantastic person who loved the sport dearly.
