Viz. at Rockaway reef

I dive yesterday at Rockaway Reef.
Vizibility was 8-12 feet, which is nice.
I've never seen so much Black fesh, all sizes, probably hundreds in one spot. They were almost hitting me.

I usually don't take pictures of cought fish. Also I don't like to eat blacks anymore.
I was hunting for black seabass, but they were limited and I didn't have enough time.
I'd like to get Go pro or Innova Sport HD. Can't decide, which one is better.

Re: Viz. at Rockaway reef

Hi Garrick,
Was thinking about making a trip to that reef in the near future. Anything special that should be noted besides the usual boat traffic? Also, how is the bottom there? Rock piles, wrecks, fishing line? Any details would be awesome. When you go do you drop the hook, or do you need to drift with the divers? Thanks again for any input. Paul

Re: Viz. at Rockaway reef

Hey Paul,
The rockaway reef isn't bad (not my favorite spot though) It got a few rock piles, some anchor lines, fishing lines, no wrecks, boat traffic is minor over there. You have to dive slack tides or drift dive with the boat following, in the current.
Or you've been asking about Breezy Point??? If so, let me know, I'll write you more comprehensive report on that spot, it's a really tricky spot... fishermen have been picking up a lot of stripers in 40"+ range. I was planning to go to BP friday, but not sure yet...
On breezy point you really need a guide, if you gonna go up there, let me know, I'll meet you there.
Be safe, always dive with a partner.

Re: Viz. at Rockaway reef

Thanks Garrik, and I appreciate you taking the time to provide details. Was not thinking of diving Breezy anytime soon, but if I do then I will drop you a line. Have a safe dive on Friday. Paul
