6/18 San Clemente Report/ story
I just got back lastnight form a dive trip to San Clemente on the Horizon. Yesterday was a good day, yet a bad one! Vis was decent at 20-25ft. Wind was howling at 20-25 knots. But unsurprisingly sunny! I jumped in first at 8:30 am and decided to take my 130cm pipe gun just to tool around for some Calicos. My first two shots were missed. I crusied around in to the thicker kelp to see what could be there. I pulled the trigger on a decent size calico. I strung him up, and as I was just about to pull my bands to reload, i look down and what do you know? Four 30lb.+ WSB 10ft. right under me. The minute i reloaded they disappeared into the kelp and with that loud thrusting sound they went. I ended up moving out to the edge of the kelp when i noticed potential game when there were all typed of bait forming a nice wall. I saw the bait move so I dropped down and before i knew it there were a small school of YT right next to me. I dropped, not looking at them, slowly turned, one looked right at me and Waaaapppaaaak! arrrrrrrrrrrlllllldddd! there she went! So i'm trying to subdue a 20lb YT in my hands now, and after i brain her and slice through his gills, I'm thinking she's dead already but no! As I reach for my stringer she kicks and i never see her again. FCUK! So i gave up and cruised back to the boat and on my way in i shot a nice size barracuda 10lb range. Just because i was pissed! ok that's it.
I'm excited for next weekend's trip to Cortes. I hear there's alot of WSB being taken by sportfishing boats. Like hundreds! |
