5 months over 10,000mi Spearfishing the Pacific Coast along North America
The Adventure Rig is ready!
It's been an incredibly difficult past two months preparing and gathering the resources for the West Coast of North America Spearfishing & Adventure Tour. But now the everything is ready and it's time to hit the road. Built the bed cover and rack myself in two days for under $90, including a new chisel. Using only a hammer, chisel, camping saw and a drill gun. Working on the street off the truck itself. Time will tell how well it holds up. But for now it has given me a large lockable trunk, strong enough I can jump on and a versatile bed rack that can easily support several hundred pounds of kayaks, surfboards and whatever else I need. Over the next couple of days I'll test and break in my setup around San Diego. Then Thursday head up towards the bottom of L.A. for a few days, then up to the Morro Bay area. After that I'll stock up on supplies and drive into Big Sur for a couple of weeks off the grid and some rad diving. After that I'll head into Santa Cruz area for a bit. Then onto NorCal to get things really started as I will continue up the coast into Alaska then head back along all the way down to Baja. If you are in these areas and want to link up, get out for a dive or have space I could park the Rig, shoot me a pm. Are you able to drive through Big Sur on the coast this summer? Read an article recently about the landslides closing much of the coast highway to cars and not reopening before September.

Thanks for the heads up and support guys.
I am aware of the road conditions in Big Sur and have my own way in. In addition to the Facebook posts I will also try to do a podcast when we are in the truck driving to the next location. Keep any eye out and if you guys have any intel, particularly on the AK region let me know. Cheers.

You can still access a lot of Big Sur if you just head in through King City, come down from the North or up from SLO. As a bonus, the campgrounds are largely empty right now.

Re: 5 months over 10,000mi Spearfishing the Pacific Coast along North America
May want to make some calls about "your own way in" because a section of that road slid back in March. My neighbor went through there and was shocked that there was no traffic at all on Hwy 1. He eventually was stopped by a ranger that asked how he got through and was turned back, then found a tree had fallen across the road after he came through. He said it was barely wide enough to get through at the time. I was thinking of going through there but haven't verified if that route is accessible myself. Signs at hwy 46 over to Cambria say Hwy 1 is closed at Ragged Point.

naciemento-ferguson road. but that (dirt) road, as it dips down to plaskett, gets pretty sporty in sections- plus that's one LONG drive just to get over to the dollar! or maybe stay on it and drop down by Mill creek?

Re: 5 months over 10,000mi Spearfishing the Pacific Coast along North America
my dad happened to mention that his motorcycle club is planning a ride through there and said that someone had ridden that route recently to verify conditions so it appears that section is opened up even though the cal-trans signs say otherwise. According to them either way is passable, just depends on whether you you like winding through oak forests or along the coast.
Sanny, you're thinking of Los Burros/ Willow Crk cause Naci Ferguson is paved the whole way |

Re: 5 months over 10,000mi Spearfishing the Pacific Coast along North America
yeah- its been years since I've driven those roads-Haha! I think I was thinking about the plasket ridge road (?) that comes out right below the campgrounds- anyway, its about time they got the mudslides cleared- the slides must have been pretty substantial.
