NorCal divers??
I see that most of you guys are SoCal... which doesn't really help me up here! Looking for dive partners/whatever for NorCal. I've got about 75 days of freediving under my belt and PADI open water cert.
Been mostly for abalone, but polespeared a few fish (my first being a VERY lucky 15# lingcod [well, I was lucky, not the ling!]). I've got access to boats and TONS of shore spots. Have a few good fishing spots that I haven't spearfished (red triangle scares my friends), with lots of lings, cabezon, reds, halibut, etc. Speaking of halibut, anyone been out? We've been catching them in Tomales, and even saw a diver on the entrance bar channel.... |

Re: NorCal divers??
people are shooting quite a few halibut at linda mar right now. There's enough rod/reel action to keep me above water this month, but when abalone re-opens next month I'll be diving up there again.
There's sporatic salmon at linda mar too, so if you have a kayak you can launch from the beach right there, fish for salmon in the early AM, drop the salmon and rods off in the car and then spearfish for halibut. Seems the halies pig out on the easy schools of anchovies and are rarely caught hook/line, but there's still alot of them just sleeping it off on the bottom. |
