Sebastian Mini Season - First Day

We tried diving shallow, between 20ft and 40ft. Ended up with 20 lobster. Nothing big. We will try the deeper reefs today.

Talked to the Fish & Game people and they said that they were not seeing anyone who got their limit out of Sebastian.

Vis was 6 to 12 ft.

Re: Sebastian Mini Season - First Day

Thanks...my buddy said someone called for me but I thought it was Russ.

You guys certainly did better than we did on the bugs. How deep were you? We were out in 90'. Found some good spots for when the eggs drop, but really there were no clusters that I usually see out there.

We Were In 40ft South And Had To Put Out Fake Dive Flags To Keep Those Dam Knucklehumpers Off The Spot!!! Thats Why I Never Go To My Honey Holes On Mini Season Nor Do I Dive On The Weekends Anymore. You Couldnt Have Said It Better About Being So Hard Up For #s. If You Want Call Me At 446-2798.

Re: Sebastian Mini Season - First Day

We hit the Vero 35-40 ft. stuff at 2AM and vis was about 20 ft. By 11 AM it had dropped to less than 5 ft. and the area was jammed with boats. We moved north about 2-3 miles to hit a secret honey hole ( no boats within a mile) and it paid off. We ended the day with 33 bugs.

Went out today to hit our honey hole ( still loaded w/bugs) and got one dive in - engine problems ended the day early. 4 keeper bugs in the box after one dive.

Nice set of bugs Jim, Don, and Corey. Wish I could have found those kind of numbers!

Re: Sebastian Mini Season - First Day

Jim & Steve:

Yes, I was diving with Ron. Tropical Diver was onboard along with several other friends.

We switched tactics on Thursday and went out to the 90ft ledge. Our worst vis was about 2/3ft and and the best we saw was a hazy 15 or so. We dropped on some spots with good bottom and lots of holes and crevices, but no one was home. It was amazing, we ended up with 4 bugs for the day.

I shot a large grouper and then lost him and my shaft when he holed up in a deep crevice and my line broke while trying to work him out. Tropical diver speared two extremely nice flounder and some large sheepshead.

We had a good time, though. It was a very good crew and the weather was great.

I only got five the first day and one the second day out of Canaveral. Two of the five were twelve pounders .
