Does anyone have a Wong speargun or a riffe?
I am wanting to try one of the longer spearguns made by wong or riffe. Does anyone near the Pensacola area have one. I'll take you diving if I can try it out on one of the dives. Thanks and let me know.

Re: Does anyone have a Wong speargun or a riffe?
I don't know, I just know I want something 55" or longer. I'm 6'4" so I know I can handle the length. I like the Hybrid and the reef guns for Wong and I like the baja and the 4sx and No Ka Oi for Riffe, but I am open to suggestions. I am just tired of shooting 20lb+ snapper with my sawed-off magnum and getting crappy penetration and then having the shaft pull out. It's kinda like deer hunting, if I don't end up with the animal then I would have prefered to miss it in the first place. I have lost 2 stud fish this year that swam off hurt and that is 2 too many! Why what do you have?

50 inch regular hybrid
55 enclosed hybrid 60 ono 110 railgun I would also recommend trying a MG Special. I sold mine because I dont scuba much anymore but it was great in that application. I might be able to get my hands on one for you to try.

Re: Does anyone have a Wong speargun or a riffe?
Are you hunting rigs or natural bottom?
Line shaft or freeshaft? In my opinion, the enclosed track is the way to go. If you are hunting big fish with the line attached, personally I would probably stick with an all wood gun instead of a hybrid. Reasons: More ballast so you can really power it up with 3 5/8" bands I would be concerned with the potential damage a very large fish could do to a hybrid. |

never had a problem with large fish and the hybrid...not sure how it would be an issue. You are far more likely to damage the wood than the carbon tube. I also liked the all wood gun for scuba though.

I would love to try any that you could arrange. Thanks! I mostly dive small wrecks and pyramids and I only lineshaft. Thanks again.

Re: Does anyone have a Wong speargun or a riffe?
OK freedivers. When I'm talking about potential damage to a hybrid with big fish, I'm refering to having a double or triple wrap of line attached to the muzzle when being pulled around by an 80 AJ or grouper while on scuba. Do this enough times and IMO something is going to give.
You breath hold boys with your floats and reels will never put that much stress on a gun. |

Re: Does anyone have a Wong speargun or a riffe?
Ive used my hybrid scuba. Why is it any different than attaching a line to a plastic Riffe muzzle or the aluminum muzzle of a MG special...dont even tell me it can be worse than a JBL winged muzzle
![]() The carbon tube is stronger than a wood stock will ever be. Attaching a muzzle is attaching a muzzle, whether it be to carbon or wood...and since the wood will splinter easier, Im not quite sure about your assumption.

Try a riding rig. Should minimize damage to any gun.
