Homeland Security strikes again

I just talked to Ken Muench. He was delighted that his new Wong gun arrived, but disappointed that it didn't include a handle. He called Daryl and found that since the handle wouldn't fit in the tube with the gun and reel, it had been sent in a separate package, but it should have arrived already.

Daryl told him that he and Rick had lost over 2 dozen handles this way. I guess the PO scans them and considers it part of a firearm so they confiscate it, but they never inform the sender. Or they take out the handle and send the empty box to the address it was intended to. Daryl is sending him another handle, signature required.

I certainly feel safer now, don't you?

I don't know what the solution is, but I thought I'd just pass along this info for your consideration if you are shipping or receiving gun handles.

Find a package that'll hold an assembled gun.

Length restrictions make it difficult to ship assembled guns. I think 48" is limit on USPS. Don't know why you could'nt ship disassembled and in one box though.

Re: Homeland Security strikes again

Same thing happened to me. Received a gun in a tube... no 2nd package with handle. Daryl promptly sent another one out. Sucks that he doesn't get notified or anything.... You'd think if homeland confiscated over 2 dozen handles thinking they were gun parts coming from 1 person, they would follow up with that person, no? Especially after doing the tiniest bit of research(google) & finding out that they've been snagging speargun parts.

This is a government agency you're talking about. That'd be too easy.

They are probably trying to figure out what kind of terrorist cell is using searguns.

I wonder if this kind of "security" is going to effect folks trying to travel with spearguns...

Hmmm...he was able to fit the handle of my gun into the tube. Guess I was fortunate.

Me too. I just got a gun back that he refurbished for me, and the handle was jammed into the end of the tube. Since I happened to open the tube at the other end, I almost didn't find the handle. So when Ken Mentioned that he didn't get a handle, I just told him to check the tube, but it turned out that in this case it was mailed separately.

With all those shipments from Daryl, they must be hot on your trail Bill. I'd check to see if the phones are tapped. They probably think your smuggling aimrite parts in WSB!

I'm sure the phones must be tapped. After all, we make a lot of calls to Europe, and my daughter might well be Al Queda.

In fact I'm sure her 5-year old son is a terrorist.

Re: Homeland Security strikes again

Same problem two weeks ago with my shipment. Picked up a 50" and a 55" Hybrid and only had one handle in the tube. What really sucks for Daryl is that he is also losing the other contents in the second box. In my box he also lost six bands, two shirts and a handle.

A replacement package is on the way, but I hope the original shows up.

Re: Homeland Security strikes again

I don't think that this is a homeland security thing. You can't mail firearms through the post office, But it has been that way for a long time. about 10 years ago my buddy’s grandpa mail a .44 mag ruger superblack hawk to his daughter in Alaska. She was cop, but that did not matter to the post office. The package never arrived, she was never notified, and the gun was probably confiscated and destroyed. That gun cost about $450 now days.

UPS is a little more forgiving, but I don't think that you are allowed to UPS handguns unless you are a FFL dealer. Anyway you could probably UPS the handles without any problems, but UPS may not go to the islands.

You're kidding, right?

The only service UPS doesn't have for hawaii is ground(for obvious reasons), so the light handles are sent priority mail for cost purposes. Priority is a lot cheaper than 2nd day air & you get free boxes to ship in... even if you do lose a few handles in the process.
