Float Line set up
I bought the floatline, I got the FLoat everything's ready to go, now i need to connect it all together.
Can't I just tie it directly to the Spear Gun? I have a wood Riffe, and I see you guys set yours up with clips and all this complication. What's the best way that I can do from home tonight? THanks.

Re: Float Line set up
I'll set you up the next time that we head out. I prefer to use a - to use a Bill Mism - hawaiian-style breakaway (the gun comes out of the system). Do you have any mono laying around? You're also going to need some crimps and a crimping tool. Finally, you'll need a piece of that covered elastic material (which can be procured at West Marine or other boating supply shops). I'm sure that Bill will post some pics. Otherwise you can just search for "hawaiian breakaway" and a fair number of posts should come up.

Re: Float Line set up
Here's a website with some useful tips. I think it does a decent job explaining breakaway, floats, etc.

Re: Float Line set up
You can tie a 3" loop trough the hole in the Riffe stock keeping the loop below the butt as this will keep help keep the float line out of the line of sight when shooting. When you clip the floatline off to the the loop keep the float line between the thumb and index finger of you non shooting hand to keep the line from pulling on the gun when shooting. When using the breakaway setup you keep the gun with you so even if you lose the fish you do not lose the gun and in sharky water it feels better to have a stick then nothing

But yes, you could just fasten it to your speargun, maybe as shown below. But if you shoot something that takes your shaft, float line and float, why not at least hang on to the gun?

Re: Float Line set up
Some spearos in SB who are much better than myself like to rig there guns the way shown in Bills picture bc they think that when you shoot a WSB and it goes on its run the gun being dragged hangs up in the kelp and stops the run. Dont know, I always worry about losing my gun.
