would you eat 'em?

Diveing the mission bay jetty - couldnt help but notice a bunch of huge scallops back in some of the holes. Would you eat scallops that come from the mission bay jetty?

Re: would you eat 'em?

No. Mission Bay is consistently rated as one of the dirtiest bays in CA. I think the fact that you see huge scallops still there means the other divers have passed them up for a reason.

We had a picnic on the beach in Mission Bay once - no seafood - and everyone got really sick after...

lol. left the potato salad in the sun, no?

I should add that these were out at the very end of the jetty, where it should get more straight ocean water, and i doubt they had ever been seen by another diver as i was about 35 feet back inside the jetty on a 60 foot air hose.

Still, I left em there.

Re: would you eat 'em?

I've eaten scallops of of zuniga without ill effects. After all, its just the muscle you're eating, not the guts. That being said, I sure wouldn't do it every day.

Was the water 60' deep out there at the end of the jetty?

Re: would you eat 'em?

Ate scallops from mission bay jetty once - after the sharp stomach pains went away, I was on the toilet for the next 3 days...

I'd stay clear of them.

those were definitely great, and I'd eat those off the floor of a bar in tijuana, but even I'd steer clear of the Mission Bay ones, I like my scallops with a side of minimal side effects

No. My rule of thumb for seafood is: If I won't eat it raw then I won't take it.
