I like the split ring idea.... but it seems like a big fish would bend the ring out if it came to life (ie a big AJ).

I usually kill the fish with my knife to the brain technique illustrated in the initial pictures on this thread. In sharky areas, this is very important as a quivering fish will draw sharks from some distance.
