Are gulf fish safe to eat?

I recently moved from SoCal and I'm just curious if Texas posts any data or info on the types of contaminants or toxins in the gulf waters. I know the DFG posts this info on their website for California. They even post recommended serving size and frequency for safe consumption of fish taken from specific areas along the pacific coast. Are there any areas that should be avoided here in Texas? Also, do yall find allot of parasites in fish taken from the gulf?

Can anyone provide a link to the Texas state dept in charge of rules and regulation on fishing and hunting? I need to get info on licensing and other stuff. Also any links to sites that provided water temp would be great, thanks.

Pat's absolutly correct. I will come a pick them up from you weekly to save you the shipping cost! PM me instead, I'm closer Serriously though, the larger barracuda and kingfish have higher mercury contents. If you get down to C.C. look me up we go to the rigs most weekends during the summer.

Dry, you may want to do some research on that. There some pretty mercury rich fish off of Florida's GC. We don'y have anywhere near the industrialization Tx does. Not saying they all do just some species in particular. Kings come to mind. Marine species start at pg 21 http://www.doh.state.fl.us/environme...tion_guide.pdf

Re: Are gulf fish safe to eat?

I was due for a check up anyway, so I asked them to check me for mercury. Blood drawn last Friday. They say results take a few weeks for that one so I will post the results when I get them. I do eat quite a lot of kingfish and recently started eating barracuda too. I try to keep the smaller ones (under 35"). I am curious to see what they say.
