15 Jan...Report...Fort Myers

Decided to make a run when it looked there was going to be a favorable forecast. Myself, Sea Shooter and slim18, who was down taking some much needed rest from his job at the Georgia Aquarium, took the ride out. He shot some video and photos that day. As soon as I get them, I'll put them up.

Conditions:

Water Temp: 70 degrees
Seas: Started out 2-3 and then laid down to near lake-like conditions.

We spent most of the day running around and confirming numbers and did some diving in 90'..we ended up limiting out on decent sized mangoes. What's weird is I did not see any grouper and I shot the few I did see in shallower water last week.

I also saw about 100 barracuda that were just huddled up in a big bunch and just sitting there near the bottom. For me that was odd behavior...maybe they are spawning? Anyone know?

All the jewfish I saw were in the 40-60# range and that was only twice.

On a side note...some dumbass Charger fan got all ticked off when they gave the game to New England and sent their team colored balloons sailing, so we did a little preventative ocean cleanup and retrieved the garbage...I feel better that the ocean is protected now now if I could just track down that fan and kick his whiney little ass

On our run back to the dock, someone suggested we take the intra-coastal because it was a little quicker and we got lost. The chart I have is for South of where we were. I went out of Captiva Pass after coming in through Boca Grande Pass because I did not want to get stuck there since the sun was setting. At least I knew how to get home that way. We took the long way home in darkness. We did not have the spot light on board, so we were hoping no cones were out without navigational lights and hoping we did not hit anything. We made it back coming in the way went out...Punta Rassa. Most of those channel marks have lights, so it helped. It was an adventure and now we have a new spot on board, just in case, so we spot the channel markers a little better. The new electronics are coming shortly and the new radar should help out when we decide to run out in the dark.

All in all, it beats the hell out of working

Yep, a pinhole stopped the 4 stroke in my old boat dead in its tracks. That seems to be an unusual place for the fuel filter, but on the up side it lends itself to be drained or replaced easily.
