Nature Coast Open?
Alot of spearfishing events are down south, tampa, st pete and ont he east coast and keys. There is not one up in my neck of the woods. I have spoke with several local dive shops and buisness owners and they are all interested in doing some sponsorship, from giving cash, spear guns and gear and gift certificates. What would my fellow spearboard members think about having a tourny up this way? I rub elbows with alot of the promient business owners and have alot contacts and have been thinking about trying to put something together , along with a few other local spearfisherman. what ideas or suggestions do you guys have? MacRae's in Homosassa would be perfect as they host the big Cobia tournament there every year and have scales and lots of docking space and a tiki bar outside. Give me your thoughts and feedback and if you would entertain the idea of doing a tournament up this way.

Re: Nature Coast Open?
There are quite a few tournaments in your area.
Spearboard open is and has allway been in Pasco. States free diving has been out of Bayport. At least one WCC is help up North. Southern Open is in Tarpon. When you look at all of the days between other Tournaments, you'll actually be surprised how little time there to schedule one. Now, add a Rec grouper closure to it, and it will certianly be difficult. Best of luck getting it done. Jason

Re: Nature Coast Open?
Search FSDA on this site. For WCC, and the Southern Open.
Search Spearboard Open. Or, you can click on any of the tournament links at the bottom of the main page. I'm sure someone will post the dates. Jason

How deep did you have to free dive to shoot that doe on the right?

Re: Nature Coast Open?
Both were killed on doe day on private property. , Deep in the woods. There is a story behind those deer. I was out with my brother and we were actually driving in the woods when we seen the deer or so we though tjust one, . He jumped out of the truck and nailed the one deer, i was out by this time and I though the same deer had gotten up and was trying to run off, so I put put a slug in the same deer, I thought. We walk out through the woods and find TWO deer, about a hundred feet apart. Pretty wild. The little one was like eating veal.

Re: Nature Coast Open?
nathan if you put on a tourney I will be there. Why don't we do a trial with a spearboard friendly event out of homosasssa with a small entry fee and pay back a couple of spots. Maybe we could get it in before the closure?
Let me know if I can help. |

Re: Nature Coast Open?
actually a weekend, on private property. You can kill does with bow and arrow during the entire season on private land. I try not to shoot a big one, just yearlings if I need to put some in the freezer. That ordeal was an accident as we intended to just get one, stuff happens. You can get tags as well if you get drawn for a management area. I have property that I own that " borders the reserve" I need say no more except my freezer stays full of venison, while in season and pork year round as they are not considered a game animal. For those of you guys who like to hunt wild boar and would like to maybe do a swap on some hunting for spearfishing , we might can work something out. Platform shooting houses with food plots and feeders on automatic timers that I keep stocked year round, boat access only.

Re: Nature Coast Open?
I'd be all over a nature coast tournament!!!
caveat being that I'm healthy and my wife's delivery date doesn't conflict
