rabitech Hunter gun review

i wanted a shorter gun and a longer gun.
i tried out the new hunter model by Rabitech (www.sumora.com) and it is very nice. i got it a few months back but theres not been time . i recently been in vegas living the hilife with the poker tourneys and got top 10 at the big bellagio tournament but thats another story.

so onto the hunter

it was 80cm and very accurate. tracking is nice and what amaze me is the speed with the thinner shaft since i am used to 7.5mm shafts. the accuracy as always is very good with them.

i want to give a fair review it is the introductory line and basically the rob allen with the aluminum barrel and track but i like the handle better and there is a loading butts. it is cheaper too and i love the service.

i then tried out my 130cm carbon apex that i got camoflagued with the open muzzle on the same dive and it was even quieter than the hunter and very accurate. the big thing i like about the open muzzle is the ease of band change. one is riggedwith a 6.5mm shaft and a 20milli band and the other with a 7.5 and 2 bands adn 16milli diameter

i would say the apex or stealth in the long guns is my favorite gun but the hunter is a bang for the buck

Re: rabitech Hunter gun review

I just started using Rabi Alu Stealth 120cm here and there, single 20mm band. Its very quiet (due to plastic rail) and very accurate. Single band has smooth release, but not as much penetration power with 7mm shaft. I still like it alot. I LOVE smooth and effective safety on this gun. It can actually be switched to safe once its been loaded....unlike RA.

Re: rabitech Hunter gun review

I have one of the older hunters in 110cm. I modded it with an Aimrite rail, and later with a hammerhead open muzzle. I hunted with it and target shot a lot with the rail but with the old stock muzzle and really loved the gun. I haven't tried it with the open muzzle, but I can't imagine it'll be anything but better. What I like about the gun is that it uses the same type of trigger mechanism as the old sporasub, which I also use. The differences are that the hunter's trigger and handle assembly are of heavier material and stronger. The barrel metal is just about twice as thick as well. I'm also a big fan of the hunter's very useable safety.

In terms of the two barrels... In comparison between my Sporasub Aspic and the Rabitech hunter, the outside diameters appear to be the same, but the metal appears to be about twice as thick in the hunter as in the aspic, hence a smaller inside diameter on the hunter. I didn't bother to pull out the calipers, I just noticed it when I had both guns apart for a good cleaning after a long trip. Same goes for the handles and trigger parts. Keep in mind that I'm comparing to an old model aspic. I believe the newer Instinct guns are more robust. I was just impressed with how beefy the hunter was...

I can't speak for SB, but I can not put the safty on with my RA once it has been loaded either. The few times I have been able to it has been very difficult. It is not a big concern to me however, just thought I would mention it.

If vecta handle safety is OFF, and you load the gun, you can't put it back ON. with rabi and old green RA handles you can toggle regardless if its loaded or not

polytrack is all nice, but Rabi barrel diam is smaller than RA...thus more prone to flex

Re: rabitech Hunter gun review

Hiya

The whole "safety on a speargun" issue is not a big deal. Most experienced spearo's remove their safety's. On the older RA guns, it is a simple matter of either removing the safety button or putting it in fire mode, drilling a small hole through the button, then using a peice of mono, to lock it into place (see picture). The newer vecta and apex models are simply glued/pratley steeled/epoxyed/etc in the "fire" position.

Many spearo's using the euro type guns can attest to lining up a fish and forgetting that the gun is still on "safe" mode!! You pull the trigger....and NOTHING happens!!....some swearing.....and by then....fish is long gone!!! The ONLY SAFETY that you can depend on is SLACK BANDS!!!

Barrel Flex. Once again, its not a big deal. Euro/rail guns are designed to be used with a maximum of 2x16mm bands. My 130 Carbon Apex's and 150 Carbon Vecta RA shoots perfectly straight, and have accounted for quite a few large fish. Granted that the carbon barrels are more rigid than the alluminuim, i've used my freinds 130 RA and Rabi's and their guns shoot just as accurate as mine.
