La Jolla Cove - Sunday 08/31/03
My neighbor hit me up to go freediving today at La Jolla Cove. Drove the 2 hours to get there and was pleased to see NO 2-3'ers as the dive report stated. However, visibility was 4' and not 10' as stated on the recording. I guess the San Diego Lifeguards like to overstate things a bit. Saw nothing but Sea-Lions and Garibaldi. While the vis sucked, I was just happy to be back in the water. It had been a whole 18 hours since I had gone out with Rick and Kyle. Don't know how I deprived myself for such a long time span. Gotta get the fill in now though because spine surgery #3 is coming up this Thursday and I get no spearfishing or freediving for (gasp) 6 F*$@ing months Suddenly, the vis didn't seem too bad!!!

Stodelle,
You're right, the viz has been poor lately. Good for you to brave the traffic and crowds to get to the Cove. FYI, the viz can be great and then fade in minutes. Went diving with a buddy last month and the viz was decent....better than average when we got in the water. 40 minutes later, the swell kicked in, and it was just green soup. We were amazed it could change so quickly. Best of luck to you on your surgery. Hope #3 is the one that does the trick. Be well. |

Thanks for the well wishes.
Not sure if it's gonna be 3rd times a charm, or 3 strikes your out, though. We'll see. |
