camo your wetsuit?

i just wanted to know if anyone has attempted to dye their wetsuits. i tried to bleach the color from some scrap peices as well as use fabric dye and that color did not budge. i tried both the black and mimetic neoprene . both peices were open cell on the inside and fabric of whatever kind on the outside.

Re: camo your wetsuit?

Dave-
If the suit is nylon outer...use fabric paint. It will not stick to open cell, but bonds really well to the nylon. I've done a couple of suits like this and they worked out well.

And I know some people are going to roll their eyes, but one of the better camo jobs Ihave seen on an old surf suit was done with spray paint and is in as good of shape today as it was 2 years ago. It is the suit on the left in Spearchuckerz avatar. http://spearboard.com/member.php?userid=5988
Doesn't look like much in that pic, but it looks really good in person in the water. I think it cost DJ a total of $7. I have some left over fabric paints that are all yours if you want to test them out...there are much better paints than the ones I chose, but the price was right.

Re: camo your wetsuit?

i used this paint call delta creamcoat acrylic paint, you will also need the delta ceramcoat textile medium which will help with the paint be flexible. just mix the paint of your choice with the textile medium choose your pattern and that's pretty much it. I just kind of splatter it all over the place.

Re: camo your wetsuit?

Yeah, it looks like you used various sizes of sponge and blotched it on then splattered. BTW freedivingfool where did you purchase the paint i.e. Home Depot, craft store......

Re: camo your wetsuit?

The italian page of Omer gives a great instruction to dye an open and-or closed cell wet suits. Is in the Marco Bardi area. Great step by step instruction by the way. Shame that is only in Italian. I understand it pretty well, but i am unable to make a decent translation. There is a great Italian guy around ( Spagetti) Maybe he could give us some advice...
