bad vis cabazon and 10" ab

I thought I would share my morning low tide adventure with everyone.
The swell was 1ft and the tide was a -1.9, perfect conditions for up here, right??? uh no. I kicked out to a pinnacle I had seen some decent abs and fish around in the past. I took one dive and hit my head on the bottom at around 20ft. The vis was horrible. 4 hours later I got three abs hidden in a deep crack. one 10" and one 9" 7/8 and one 9 5/8. On the way in I dropped down around a grass covered little boulder and I saw what I thought was a ling sitting in a crack. I crept up a little closer and realized it was a huge Cabazon eating a kelp crab. I shot it and wrestled it on my stringer. When finally got home after a wicked hike I measured the Cab at 25". I didnt get its weight but the damn thing nearly killed me hiking back up to my truck.

Nice!

But... could you mix some normal pictures in once in a while?
Hard to tell how big anything is when you hold everything 2 inches from the camera.

Great haul in those conditions - a 25" cab is usually around 10#+

You are right. Sorry about that. This pic is a bit more realistic.

You have the makings of an excellent meal there. Now all you need is a bottle of wine and a loaf of sourdough.

Very nice D! You guys are doing very well up there. A 25" cab is huge, it would look bigger if it was next to some normal sized abalone. Nice Job! Since I am not up there can you make a dive at high tide, just for me?

Not busting your chops, I like the close-up pics - kinda artsy. It's just cool to see the fish's proportions, etc. in normal pics as well

I agree with Justin - that's a huge cab, next time find some 7" ab shells on the beach & use those in your picture.

fyrfytr_pyle shot a 26" cab this weekend in ft brag. I shot one in salt point on Sunday that printed out to be 26", but I never measured the actual fish so I don't know exactly how big it was. I am quite jealous of the 10" abs Inanity has been pulling.

Nice Justin.

That water looks tropical! I can't tell you how happy I am to have had my neck issue taken care of right when we got the best conditions of the last year or so.

Enjoy it while you can, I'm back in the water pretty soon. On a bright note, I had to cancel going on the Peace boat on 5/25 so that pretty much guarantees a limit of WSB for the boat.
