Attaching floatline to a Aimrite.
Hi All,
I have a customer who has just purchased an Aimrite carbon 110cm Hawaiian gun. What are the methods of attaching a floatline to this gun? It looks like there are several options. I should have known the answer to this, but I forgot to ask Aimrite :>( I have written to Rick, but did depending on his locale at the moment, he may not be in a position to reply. I did commit to getting an answer as soon as possible, so any responses would be gratefully received. Thanks, Mike.

I have have not personally attached a line directly to my gun for about 17 years or so. I recommend that everyone attach the line to the shaft in some way or another, regardless of how small or large the fish. No chance to lose the gun.

Mike, there is a hole molded into the plastic housing near the rear of the gun, you can run a piece of cable or mono through it and make a "loop" with a crimp or two, then clip the floatline to that. Or he can just rig a break-away set-up.

Re: Attaching floatline to a Aimrite.
Mike,
I don't have an Aimrite, but I've seen some, and I'm almost sure that there is a hole in the handle that you can put a loop of mono in, and then clip the float line to that loop. I'm assuming that you are already aware of the option of rigging a Hawaiian breakway, but if not, I'll be glad to show the photos again. Edit: I see bluedog beat me to it, but let me know if you want to see the breakaway. |

I saw that hole you mentioned and considered it as an option. Now it seems to be most favored option. The customer will be doing some scuba hunting as well as freediving and I do not believe the breakaway shaft option will be the best for him. Thanks for the offer of pictures of the breakaway Bill, perhaps PM me them, if you would, so I can archive them. Regards, Mike.

Adjust the length of the shooting line so that the loop in the rear end is a few inches from the line release. Stretch a loop of bungee cord from the shooting line over the line release. Attach the clip of the float line to the shooting line. When you pull the trigger, the bungee comes off of the line release and the gun is safe in your hands, with a direct connection from the shooting line to your float. These photos are on a wood gun, but a lot of friends use it on Rob Allens, Aimrites and other Euro guns. All it requires is a trigger-activated line release. There are a lot of other threads discussing variations and improvememts, and you can find them by searching for "Hawaiian breakaway." |

![]() Here's a pic of where you would attach the floatline. Very simple. There are a bunch of threads for the break-away. Search.

Re: Attaching floatline to a Aimrite.
I like to use 3 mil reel line from Mori to for float line attachment loops. Here's a cool trip to use with the Aimrite: tie the loop in the line, remove the handle, put the loop on the gun such that the knot is hidden in the trigger housing, then reattach the handle. It's super clean, very trick, and will not hand up your float line clip.
On a separate note, I switch out my float line clips to french snaps or pigtails. The clips are much to big, bulky, and noisy for my taste.

Thanks for that small tip. It should work with crimped mono also. Neatens up the job. Regards and thanks, Mike.
