Better Freediver ?

I don't live by the ocean so can't train at depths. Will the pool work for making my breathhold better ? about 9ft is deep as I can get , my average hold sucks right now with no training, just jumped in and can manage about 35-40 seconds. Just wondering if I can get better with the pool or if i'm just SOL...? I have lots of shallow diving within 30ft is the reason i'd like to be able to freedive.

How long can you hold your breath above water? Breathing up routine, relaxation and diving technique will improve your bottom times the most the fastest. I can see a problem training in a pool with the weight you use to normally dive 30-40fsw and having to fight your buoyancy the whole time. Can't relax if you are fighting that. Even if 30seconds bottom time is all you ever had (which I am sure you can improve) you could still kill lots of fish in 30fsw with that alone.

PS Never pool train alone dying from a SWB is enough of a trajedy without adding that it often happens to people apnea training alone

Also if you want some depth try to find out is there are any old phosphate quarry lakes, springs (nice and clear but a little cool), or any other body of water with what you are looking for close to home that can work as a substitute for a place to train.

Just practice holding your breath alot. I do it all the time when I am watching tv. I went from 45 seconds to 3 minutes in a month and a half. Those times are shorter when I am actually diving though. Most fish I shoot are within 20 seconds after reaching bottom.

Your best bet is meeting up with an experienced freediver and learn from them. You can train with me I go at least once a week
