Quick yak question

This is gonna sound pretty basic, but do you guys wear your weight belt while paddling to where you're gonna freedive, or carry the belt in the yak and put it on when you get there and get anchored? I'm gonna go after some abs and fish this Thursday in Fort Brag and I'm just getting all me gear together since I won't have time during the week.
Thanks,
Ron.

Have you tried it? It's very uncomfortable to sit in a kayak with the weight belt on never mind paddle for any length of time.

Re: Quick yak question

tie it down good and put it on when you arrive at your destination..otherwise, you will be diving with sore hips and stiff joints...

No, I haven't. I've been freediving off the new yak out on the lake, but even on the worst storm day, it's not the same as the north coast. I just wasn't sure how hard it's gonna be to gear up on the boat.

Re: Quick yak question

Definatley put it on when you get to your destination. I just bungee mine thru and put it in the rear hold. If you might possibly face getting dumped by a wave or something you wouldn't want your weight belt on. At least that's what I do and it seems to work well.

Re: Quick yak question

Good enough guys. That's what I've been doing in the lake, so that's what I'll do at the coast. Thanks for the help.

Re: Quick yak question

FWIW,
I put my weight belt in the hatch between my legs. I know some yaks come with them, and they are not to hard to put in. the benefit is that you can reach your belt easily in a balanced position, you lower the center of the boat (acts like a keel) is out of the way.
