C4 mustang fins

I am trying to find out as much about these fins as possible, I am interested in the mustang 80s, or the mustang flap 80 but I can't seem to find much on reviews of how people like them, the only person I have seen in a picture wearing them is mandy from PFD but that was just in a pic if anyone owns a pair or knows someone who does please post some info it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: C4 mustang fins

i got a pair of the 30's a couple months back, i love them. i was diving gara 2000's before these, andd i feel a big difference, a major difference is that the mustangs are a lot easier to kick on the surface. my understanding on the 80's is that they really only shine in deep competitive freediving, where you are just going up and down and not swimming around as in a spearfishing application.

If these are for spearfishing...the 80's are going to severely dissappoint you.

Re: C4 mustang fins

I have not tried the Mustangs.

But I just had the chance to do a bunch of dives in 70' with my new C4 Falcons (40s), and I think for me they are just what I wanted for spearfishing, more zip with less grunt.

The Omer foot pockets also are a perfect fit for me with 2mm socks. :-)

Re: C4 mustang fins

During my last trip in South of France and Italy in May, I got some critical feedback from Sfishermen and colleagues about these fins:
-difficult to put on, to make adjustments.
-needs some intuition to find the best swimming style.
-not the best results if you need to "move off again" in swimming deep.
-expansive.
-not the best fins in strong current.
The main quality would be: versatility/ ergonomics.

Re: C4 mustang fins

Thought I might post on this board for the first time in a while...

I use a pair of the regular falcon 80s for spearfishing, they would be about the best fins I've tried with the possible exception of some locally made fibreglass fins. I suspect many divers prefer stiff fins because their technique is a bit dodgy, hence you get a few people saying the 80s are no good for spearfishing. However some of the spearfishing I do is quite deep, I'm about 90kg (200lb in your language) and I have no trouble at all getting off the bottom with the 80s. Tried the 30s and they were too stiff for me. When I graphed my dives I got no real benefit despite the fact they felt harder to kick.

Used the mustang footpockets briefly and didn't particularly like them. I preferred the feel of the Omer footpockets and the narrower blades.

My comments on the 80's were more pointed towards the maneuverability. We are also spearfishing in the 80-100'+ range and doing so with medium stiffness fins (30's). The 80's I'm sure will work, but they are far from ideal in the abiity to scull, change directions etc. I'm know that diving form can be adjusted to make these work, but why? I'm sure they are fine for dive-bombing for bottom fish in the 100+ range but that is a small percentage of diving that a very small percentage of divers are capable of. I've seen a few guys choose these just because "bigger is better" and it was an expensive mistake. If the OP is looking for an everday set of fins for speafishing, the 80's are not a good choice. But then again I'm sure you could lift a Ferrari and put off road tires on it....but why?

Re: C4 mustang fins

a coworker got a pair of the C4s....don't know what kind....other than they are the fancy carbon fiber.

first trip on the water...the edges delaminated.

Re: C4 mustang fins

Yeah it depends what your focus it. Most of my diving involves waiting on the bottom in reasonable depths without much moving around. The 80s aren't great as far as maneuverability goes. On the other hand it's only a slight disadvantage, which I'm happy to put up with in exchange for the vertical performance. The thing they really suck at is surface swimming in fast current.

Re: C4 mustang fins

Well thanks again I am looking at the c4 flap with an omer foot pocket also and my style of diveing is dive bombing large parrots and sweet lips in 100+ ive already got a set of omer ice fins i like for shallow diveing on the reefs

Re: C4 mustang fins

Remember everyone that the 80s take a good relaxed long slow kick to work.

Also the thing with delamination is that the edges can not be banged at sideways or they will turn to dust as with all carbon fiber.

And dont remember that the weight and drag of the diver is also important factor that makes a 80 flap work for a leighter perseon but not for a heavier guy with thicker suit that might cause more boyancy loss at the depth.

So its difficult to give any general advice without having the full picture.

For me the 40s suck and the 80 is a dream but im tall lanky and not so heavy.

Re: C4 mustang fins

These fins are awesome, all of them.
But, like most things in life, we all
can't use the same thing, so its a good idea
when asking, taking into account your size, weight,
shape and also very important the use you will give them.
I love my 80's, I also liked a lot the 30 and 40, they felt diferent,
I could really fly with the 40s, but they needed more power to
move them, and the 30, could give a lot of power, and they still felt light.
The 80, are soft but long, so they are still hard to move, but if you have the power they are great for deep diving, still, they can be used soft if there is not too much current, you really have to be carefull with a long fin so thin.
Here a few pics, the mustangs are wider, and looks like designed
to avoid breaking on the normal weak spots.
