Question Open muzzle for Euro band gun

Does anyone know about using an open muzzle for a Euro banded gun (Threaded band). I have a Sporasub viper that I would like to convert and am looking into its practicality, as well as availability of a muzzle.
Thanks.

Re: Open muzzle for Euro band gun

I have a couple guns, a 75cm Sporasub Aspic, and a 110cm Rabitech Hunter, that I've converted to open muzzle using the Hammerhead Reef. Contrary to what some folks say, you DON'T have to replace your notched shaft for a pinned or finned shaft to use circular bands and rope/dyneema wishbones. You can file/sand/polish the notches on just about any euro shaft to work very well with rope wishbones. (I know because I use some pretty cheap aftermarket shafts with no problems...)
Anyway, I'm a big fan of the hammerhead muzzles and would highly recommend them.
As for an open muzzle for threaded euro bands, the only one I can think of is the Sporasub Instinct muzzle. I don't know if it can be adapted to other guns though.
Hope this helps,
Ron.

Thanks for that info Ron, I'll run with it. Clownfish just converted a gun to an open muzzle (Hammerhead) and after shooting a fish with it I couldn't imagine where all that white goo came from, but he was happy!

Re: Open muzzle for Euro band gun

For what it's worth, I changed the muzzle on my Rabi 110 (may it RIP) to a Hammerhead, and although I was impressed with it's accuracy, I found that it was no faster loading than the stock enclosed muzzle... If I had installed it when I first got the gun, it may have sped things up, but I got pretty fast at loading it even with an enclosed muzzle, and it didnt make enough difference for me to want to change over the new RA 110 I just bought... Havent speared with the RA yet, so who knows, maybe I will feel different after I use it a few times... Enclosed muzzles have never slowed me down that much...

Re: Open muzzle for Euro band gun

Although a lot of folks report being able to load faster or shoot more accurately with an open muzzle, those aren't the reasons I changed my guns over. My reason was that with a closed muzzle, I had problems with "short shots". What I mean is, when I'd hit a fish and/or the bottom so that the shaft stopped either before leaving the muzzle, or befor the shooting line left the muzzle, I'd occasionally end up with the shooting line wrapped around the band, thus locking up the shaft. I've never had that problem with an open muzzle. Short shots are, at least for me, the norm in NorCal.
For me, accuracy and loading time are pretty much the same between the RA/Rabitech closed muzzle and the hammerhead open muzzle, but then again, I'm a clutz and a lousy shot, so for me loading either one looks like a drunk monkey f'ing a ball of string underwater anyway...

Re: Open muzzle for Euro band gun

LOL! No shiat... I see your point on the short shot thing, but I have gotten around that mostly by matching the gun to what I think I may see.... But on occasion, I have shot the 110 where a 55 would have been sufficient, and when the shaft didnt exit the gun, I simply pulled back on the gun till the shaft cleared.. Only twice it happened, but I recall no problem that even made me give it a second thought....

I am curious now to see how I like the closed muzzle after shooting the 110 open muzzle for a while.. My Rabi 80 is closed muzzle, and I can fire and reload pretty quickly, but of course the time spent stinging that fish I just nailed takes the most time...
