Ledge in 600ft

My dad marked this bottom while trolling in 600ft off of key west. Any thoughts as to how good this would be for deep dropping and possible resident fish??

Re: Ledge in 600ft

Its hard to see in this picture, but in the full size there is a decent show of fish on the deep side of the drop. It also seems like there is some good sounding on that first trench on the left. I'll try to get the pic resized when i get a chance.

Re: Ledge in 600ft

I would definitely drop on that if I were you. I have a couple spots around that depth off the upper keys and they consistently hold fish. If you have an electric or two just drop down a couple baits (cuda seems to work great). Ive caught snowys, yelloweye and queen snapper, tilefish and porgys - all good eating fish - while deep dropping. If you dont have an electric you can spool up a rod with 80-100lb braid and drop a big jig down with a strip on it........but make sure you have a couple sets of arms ready to bring it back up.

Re: Ledge in 600ft

Honestly, Ive never caught a warsaw. Im not really sure what depth range they like either. I have hooked some fish on electrics that completely bogged down the electric motor and snapped 150# braid, I guess they could have been warsaws but who knows. Maybe someone will chime in that knows a little more than I do.

I think his number is definitley better than yours Brad. His shows some signs of life and yours looks like some place that was recently hit by the red tide
