Point Vicente Report 09/03/07

Hey Guys,

The boyz and I decided to hit up Point Vicente again to see some whales and do some diving . We dove yesterday in 10 foot visibility and enjoyed swimming with some 4 foot bat rays and a lonely black sea bass all alone in about 20 feet in the middle of a large sand patch. We were hoping to see some more fishies, try out my new suit and hopefully see some more Halibut and maybe the occasional WSB.

Anyway we hit the water around 11:00 and were greeted to little wave action a seemingly middle tide and a very green water . Paddling out the visibility was much worse than yesterday by a good 8 feet but once out at the kelp visibility improved to around 10 feet at the bottom. There was a ton of particles in the water, same green shi$ completely shutting down our old favorite spot. So if you are really bored tomorrow and have the day off work then might be worth a dive.

The dive was nice though and stayed in till around 3 (suprised my new Yazbeck although I love it didn't turn to the brownish red yet ). Grey didn't see another halibut like yesterday and my black sea bass had moved on. Not much in terms of fishies today and by the end of the dive the best I had managed was a rubber lip perch and decent opaleye (in about 5 feet of water on my way in). But everyone had a good dive and I was happy being the only one who landed anything (the other guys take the harder shots and wait for the bigger fish, I'm happy with the fish on the plate if that's all i'm seeing and Brandon has a thing for sharks).

Wasn't able to pick up my new Aimrite from Miguel yet cause Bank of America froze my account due to suspicious purchases "I" have been making . So I took my fish once I convinced Grey to let me use his 90cm Picasso Century while he held my (POS) JBL 38 NW .

Last but not least my wonderful parents decided to come down and see what we boyz get up to and were gracious enough to pose for a pics as well as take a few. And the pic of the boyz is in keeping with The Fishers' stone cold steve austin look in all his pics

Good luck to all those diving this week and hope you all enjoy my first report (to give back to those who've helped us out) and any critiques definitely let me know.

Thanks for the report.

I was considering diving PV today but opted for Laguna. Conditions sucked big time.

I love the look that proud parents have when they see all the years of pain/pleasure/anxiety come together in a well balanced kid! Bless you all.

Thanks for the report! Conditions look deceptively nice until you look closely.

Yea the hike up is always fun, then again if you're really looking for some good cardio hit the cattle run that runs straight up the hill (especially in a 5 mil Yazbeck, sweating bullets)

I did a kayak dive there. My kayak is 14 feet long and is kinda heavy. DO NOT CARRY YOUR KAYAK DOWN THE TRAIL AT POINT VICENTE! It was the most miserable experiece of my life. But thanks for the report

The hot spot to dive for gamefish is the north end of the cove out in front of the breaking rocks...yellowtail, bsb and some halibut there...

Hey Bob,

yea we heard from some other guys out there that day (no names remembered) that that's the spot for the YT but the swim to the outside rock looks a little shady. But I'm sure in a week or two we'll make it out there. Thanks for the heads up.

Make the swim! There are not many sharks around that area. Just not enough large seal rookeries like up North.

Re: Point Vicente Report 09/03/07

I never dive Pt.Vicente anymore. After I was told and learned there is not much of a variety of fish there.

I used to dive Pt. Vicente and only Vicente every weekend when I began diving. Never came home with much. But it is a great learning area. Plus, it will get you in good cardio shape.
The boilers on the left hand side of the cove are not bad for calicos and small sheephead. It is about 20-30ft deep around the boilers on the left. I have seen a few decent lobsters in holes near the rock right by shore.... sooon the harvest will begin!
As far as I know no one has seen any Great Whites in that cove.

PS...
Stop killing those horn sharks. They are bad karma... now you are gonna see whiteys grin for sure.
