burning designes in wood?

I want to try to burn some designes into a gun I am going to build in the near future and was wondering how to do it. I looked into some custom branding dies but they were like $350 each. Can anybody tell me how to burn a high quality immge on to a gun stock?
Thanks, John K

Re: burning designes in wood?

Look up wood burning kits. Basically different style pens for different type of drawing. This is done by hand. If you are interested I will sell my kit. Never really got into it. It is this one http://woodburning.com/toolshop/deta...ro=81&iType=24 . You can do rediculously detailed art if you can draw well or have stencils. Problem is the wood you are drawing on has to be pretty nice basswood or the like. Otherwise the grain can throw the pen or burn unevenly.

I saw once some companies use a laser to burn their logo and desgins on their wood products. They just load an image on the computer and the laser takes care of the rest. Maybe someone does this as a service if you send them the wood.

It is not burning, but u can use ur dremmel with the small round bit to make the design u want, then mix a dark wood dust (fine) like ebenon, with epoxy fill the design and after curring use sandpaper on it, to reveal the dark wood design.

Well, you need an artist if you dont draw well. Draw with pencil the logo or watherver you want to burn in the gun first. Then burn it with a soldering iron. Practice first in some left over wood !!!
