Car Frame Reef
Hey guys,
Has anyone ever heard of Car Frame Reef? It's supposedly a bunch of car frames stacked up into a reef near Fowey Light. I've searched on the internet to find out where it would be located by Fowey. I've only found descriptions but no coordinates. I will be heading out to do some diving tomorrow for Xmas and would like to check the area out if anyone knows where it is. I'm not asking for GPS coordinates but the general location of where it may be. (You can PM me if you don't want anyone else to know.) I also will check out Arakanapa (sp.) wreck near Fowey as well. I shall post my findings upon my return! I'd also like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. I hope you all get shiny new guns and any other dive items on your wish list! |

Re: Car Frame Reef
I dive around Fowey all the time & have never seen or heard of this reef. I can tell you that nothing in that area is a secret. How deep is it supposed to be?

Re: Car Frame Reef
Hey Steve, how ya been?? I've done some dives with you years ago and I know you've got extensive local knowledge about Fowey. (I was with you on the dive when we brought JLB in from the ThunderBolt.) It's supposed to be in 30 feet. It's posted on a dive instructor's website giving info about Miami dive sites as well as the RJ Diving Ventures website. I'm going to give the dive instructor an e-mail and see what info she gives me. I'll pass on the information to you in PM!

Re: Car Frame Reef
Spearing or not, I think that would be a pretty sweet site to find...if it does in fact exist. Could be a cool wreck.

The "Arakanapka" is misleading - the real name of the wreck is ARRATOON APCAR and its just off Fowey (you can read about the identification and background of this wreck in my book ). We went out to take pics of it several years ago with Mobile Diver and only found debris (lots of stuff/junk around that area), and turns out we were slightly off the mark. Another group has done some recent work on the site:http://www.marinearcheology.org/arratoon.htm ![]() Quote:
![]() We are checking out a new deep wreck in the Middle Keys that might be interesting though ![]() Happy Holidays!

Re: Car Frame Reef
Wow, thank god for this thread! Mike, that looks like a sweet wreck to check out off Fowey. I'm definitely gonna have to purchase your book now.
I'm always curious to see what new stuff you find. I'm gonna continue my research on the car frames. If I come up on anything, I will pass it along. I may have to do a trip on one of the charters that supposedly uses it as one of their destinations. |
