Just ordered me a new wetsuit at diveskin.net

WSB season is right around the corner.. so had to order a new suit.. The prices are insane..

Just Ordered a new wetsuit off of Sprios for $220.00. I have not had a new freediving wetsuit in a while. My old Hawaiian Spearfishing wetsuit is all ripped up and as holes. Freezing my fat filipino ass off. So I talked with Tommy7 and told me about how well his Diveskin fits.

Custome made. And for you guys that know me out there I am 6'1" 300lbs 52 chest, 46 inch waist. So I can't just buy off the shielf wetsuits.

I also own a JMJ wetsuit, but is almost imposable to zip up myself with the cross the chest zipper.

So Dive skin was the answer.

they also have some cool new camo patterns.

Check them out at http://www.diveskin.net/

I will let you guys know how the workmanship is once I get it.

They look like nice suits Larry and the price makes them even nicer. I might pick up a 3MM for the summer.

Jeff,

Ya, i picked the 5mm Green Abstract open cell suit w/ loading, knee, and elbow pads. I know alot of people have used this suit, even Sherri Dayl uses the suits.

Rd,

Yes, Diveskin.net price is right, they have also been around for quite some time. I will let you know once I get it..

The fit of the suit I ordered was great. However, after wearing once, both me and my buddy had numerous runs in the nylon at the seams. I think maybe it was a bad batch of material. We sent them back for repair and they were lost in transit. The guy was cool about it and offered us a good deal on another pair of suits, but we decided to cut our losses at that point. Just something to think about when ordering from oversees.

Re: Just ordered me a new wetsuit at diveskin.net

I just took a look at that website. It appears that a non-custom suit is only $159???
I'll be real interested to know how this suit works out for you. I've only been freediving a season or two, and have been using my 7mm scuba suit. Does anybody know if one of these suits in 5mm would be enough for Fort Brag and Monterey? Looks like a killer deal, especially for somebody like me that really only gets to the coast once a month or so.

Trimbandit,
That is a very classy way to post what you did about a deal gone bad. Two thumbs up....I bought 1 two years ago and I need a new one soon. The jacket is still ok but the pants are shot. I think for the price, I'll buy another.

Re: Just ordered me a new wetsuit at diveskin.net

I have the 3mm open cell suit custom made. I ran into the same problem Larry, I am 6'7" 250 lbs and not many off the shelf wetsuits fit me either. This suit fits very well and is really warm. The only problem I've had was ripping the pants on my swimstep where the ladder attaches as I was getting in the water one day. I repaired it and have had no other problems, I would definitely recommend this suit for the price.

Re: Just ordered me a new wetsuit at diveskin.net

Scott,

Ya, I have already ordered it. Really excited about it. I will be using it 2 to 3 times a week. So we will see how well it holds up.

I know my surfing suits last about 2 years and my JMJ wetsuit still looks brand new after 3 year of weekly usage.

As for my Hawaiian spearfishing wetsuit lasted about 3 years of weekly usage. I have over 300+ dives on it.. and the rubber has flatted out with all the pressure.. I also us the wetsuit for scuba.. Bad think to do with a freediving wet suit.

Tommy u can just order the pants for a cheap price when you re-order a suit.

Re: Just ordered me a new wetsuit at diveskin.net

Ron S,
Ive been using my Lizzard 5mm one-piece since '00 in norcal. I have spent more then 6 continuous hours in 50° water in the same suit without getting to numb. And no I don't piss in my suit. Haven't done that since the late 80's.

I was so glad when wetsuit manufactures started making 1-piece surf suits for diving. It seems the trend has gone back to the stone age of two-piece suits, beavertails, ripped neoprene and seam repairs.
I'm curious why most divers have started to use the two piece and open cell suits?
Whats everyone's take on camo suits?
I've been using it for 8years and haven't noticed any difference as far as not spooking the fish goes.
The first time I went spearfishing in my camo suit I over heard two lings talking to each other. They said look at the idiot, doesn't he know he ain't fooling any of us. The other one said "well it's better then all those stupid looking neon suits of the 80's".
Then this seal swam over and tried to hump on my OMER tuna fins...no joke!

My Lizzard suit is getting old and tattered and I'm on the hunt for a new suit. Does anyone make an anatomical cut, one-piece, back zipper, suit thats off the shelf? Black or green would be nice.

Ron S, I picked up the suit at Florida Freedivers. I don't think Lizzard makes this suit anymore.

Re: Just ordered me a new wetsuit at diveskin.net

Aaron,
Thanks for the input. I don't know anything about freedive suits since I've only used the classic, 7mm farmer john scuba suits. I did try on a one piece Oneal scuba suit that had the zipper running horizontally across the chest, but it seemed restrictive due to the zipper. One of my buddies dives that suit both scuba and freediving and swears by it, no matter how cold the water.
I think a camo suit is especially important in Norcal more than anywhere else in the world. The visability is always incredible and the rockfish, lingcod, and cabezone are very skittish and will never let a diver in a black suit get close. It's also a little known fact that when abalone reach 9.8" in length, they can travel at speeds of over 35mph, and will take off as soon as they see you coming. (Oh, and yes, they do have eyes on top of their shells.) Therefore, I believe it's imparative that if you dive Norcal, you must wear the proper pattern of camo.
OK, so I just think it might be more comfortable to freedive in a 5mm freedive suit than a 7mm scuba suit...
Ron.

Re: Just ordered me a new wetsuit at diveskin.net

Larry,

Thats the one I was talking about. Its an Oceanos 3mm open cell interior with farmer jon bottoms. I think they may have discontinued that camo though because I don't see it on their website anymore.
BTW...ripping the pants was completely my fault, they seem to be pretty well made (however this is the first spearfishing suit I have owned so I have little to compare it to)
