couple of gws sightings

Two charter boats.............Sun Diver and Sand Dollar have both reported seeing what they think are three different gws.

Yesterday the sand dollar was going to anchor up at blue cavern at catalina.
They saw and smelled a dead gray whale (calf). They didn't want to smell that all night so they dragged it offshore towards open ocean.

They came back and did a dive and about 10 minutes into the dive the divers started coming back on board like penguins hopping onto the swimstep
with one guy screaming like a little girl

George came out of the wheelhouse and saw a dark shape of a good 15-17 ft gws right by the boat.

The Sun Diver reported seeing another large gws by ship rock this last week as well as some other coves on the front side of catalina.

Just thought I'd give you all a heads up and a little exitement for your next trip out to Catalina

GWS are a myth they really don't exist. I think people are just seeing a mirage. Thanks for the info Captn Ron. As if I don't feel small enough in the ocean. No pun intended.

You just have to know how to translate posts like this. What it really means is that white sea bass are thicker than kelp flies on the front side, particularly at Blue Cavern Point and Ship Rock.

GWS never leaves La Jolla.

Now that they got that children pool going as a seal rookery, it's a buffet station for GWS.

Re: couple of gws sightings

The nice thing about LA Jolla is that the vis is so bad that you can't see them unless they bite you. That prevents unnecessary anxiety.

science has proven that gws spend most of their time weaving through the kelp, looking for any living thing over 50#, and biting it in half.

I just read an article reporting that the GWS released from the MBA has just passed the tip of Baja! It's traveling at around 27 miles per day. Obviously in a hurry to get somewhere!

Yeah, it is heading here due to reports of WSB showing up along the coast and the islands meaning more divers in the water thus creating an easy meal.

Re: couple of gws sightings

Dove La Jolla yesterday and the vis was bad but I was attached and molested by a harbor seal. I first got bumped by it and I immediatley turned around and didn't see anthing. Scared the sh@t out of me, however my dive partner had the same experiance but the harbor seal came back and humped his leg for a few seconds

Hmm. Where did you say this was again? I may have to "investigate"
