Wong Carbon Fiber and titanium

Whats the difference between carbon fiber and titanium? Also does a 60 inch carbon fiber hybrid pack a big punch; enough for wahoo and dolphin?

Re: Wong Carbon Fiber and titanium

The web site still shows them, but I don't think he offers titanium any more except in the 42" gun.

Dolphin don't need much punch and are pretty stupid. A 60" hybrid would be more than enough. I've shot them with a 55".

I haven't shot any wahoo with my 60" hybrid, but I've watched Sheri Daye shoot them at Hatteras on Spearhunter, and I think her magnum hybrid may have been shorter than 60".

Hi.
I have one ordered from Wong, he says a Sheri Daye shot a marlin with hers.
I hope to have my 60" soon.

Re: Wong Carbon Fiber and titanium

ive heard of guys in nj shooting dolphin with the 42in hybrid but bill is right, daryl only uses titanium on the 42in and all other guns must have carbon fiber. All of daryls guns have the power to shoot dolphin and wahoo but the shorter ones might not have enough range for those clear bluewater long shots.

Yep, butt to muzzle. I hope to plug some wahoo with my 55" Jarrah Slayer, so i think you should be fine. I've shot wahoo with my 53" black gun too.

Like other American guns, it means from butt to front of muzzle. And of course that makes it hard to compare guns from one brand to the other.

This may border on two much information, but look at this photo of the Riffe mid-handle. There is a fair amount of butt extension behind the trigger mechanisim. That makes it easier to cock, but that extra extension doesn't contribute anything to band stretch and power. So it turns out that a 61" Riffe Island has the same band stretch as a 57.5" Wong magnum hybrid.

Then narrowing it down to Wongs, the next photo shows a comparison of the Wong magnum hybrid butt and the Wong regular hybrid butt. The magnum doesn't have a butt extension, so the trigger mechanism is a couple of inches closer to the butt. A magnum will have a couple of inches more band stretch than a regular hybrid of the same length. This may be splitting hairs, but at least it illustrates how total gun length is not the only thing you need to know.

Damn, it looks that way doesn't it. I can't explain the photo, but I shoot two wraps on all my guns. I have three 5/8" bands on the magnum and three 9/16" bands on the regular hybrids.
