The Spear Wars film crew spent the whole weekend filming segments for the up-coming Blue Storm Tournament series.

This weekend we shot SBO scouting footage with a great Florida east coast team headed up by Captain Mike Newman on his boat Dykoke based out of the Jupiter, Florida Inlet. Not all members of Team Dykoke were present and accounted for this weekend, but we had four of them. Captain Mike was diving with his buddy Craig who hails from South Africa. Also, on board was the father and son divers Todd (Stabbin Boy) and Logan (Top Predator).

I was not diving and served as camera crew director on board. The high definition camera crew consisted of two topside cameramen named Matt and Josh as well as two underwater camera men named Ed and Jason. We also placed a standard definition head camera on Mike and Todd.

Captain Mike has been diving and fishing these waters for most of his life. He knows the reef as well as any contender out there and is a very nice fellow. Craig has been spearfishing only 5 years, but has learned well and is very productive. The father-son team of Todd and Logan are great fun and formidable hunters. All in all it was a successful day on the water.

The rest of these shots are standard definition head camera video frames. We have not yet captured the High definition footage. They give you some idea of the shooting. Please note that Mike and Todd used the same gun as they alternated dives.

These guys use alot of stealth in their hunting techniques.

They move very slowly on very selective drop spots.

Mike has pointed out some jacks to his buddy Craig.

Mike then goes in for the kill.

This 20+ pound jack raises some cain. Mike has to finish him off with his pole spear.

As the Team Dykoke members scout for the SBO Blue Storm Classic, they are mindful of the rules which are located here -

SBO rules.

There is a maximum number of 20 points (20 pounds) for each fish with two fish allowed for each category in 1hogfish, snapper, grouper, and sheepshead/trigger and only one fish allowed for the jack/cobia category. The maximum number of fish that a contestant can potentially enter is nine (9). Unless you are shooting for a "biggest fish" trophy, all you need is 20 pounds to get maximum points for each fish. Getting more poundage will NOT improve your aggregate score.

Team Dykoke are essentially running a trial simulation of game day, but at a relatively leisurely pace. This scouting effort helps them formulate their ultimate hunt day strategy.

Great report Tony, those guys certainly are a class act. Had dinner with them all last night and enjoyed a few beers, good food, and good company. I think you forgot this picture which few people will be able to fully appreciate.
