Am I the Only One?

I have been reading on Spearboard and Bloodydecks that this year has been a RECORD YEAR for people spearing Halibut in Southern Calif. I have been keeping personal records of my diving for a really long time and this year for me has been less than average. Since the end of Lobster Season, I have dived at least one day every weekend, and my total for the season is only 5 Butts! Am I out to Lunch or have other people found it underwhelming as well?

I have never caught a halibut, but I haven't looked very much. I do know that this has been a very good halibut year for the guys that do hunt halibut.

I know they are around - I lost a big one yesterday doing some HnL after work... I plan to go back to the same spot with my spear

They're there this year. Just dive your good spots and you'll hit em up.

Actually, I've been getting them at Todd's spots

Re: Am I the Only One?

Statistically speaking, I don't think a few divers opinions is an indication of the overall picture. Conditions change, fish move around and divers skills improve. Lose the tanks and go shallow is my advice. You don't need a boat or tanks for halibut in the South Bay or PV. You may also want to try some new areas. Just my opinion. You obviously have some serious talent based on your track record (see avatar). I would like to join you sometime. Hit me up if you need a dive partner (I free dive only).
