Randy Fry "Big X" Free Diving Tournament
Ocean Cove, Saturday, October 11th, 2007

Who: The public is welcome — this free dive tourney is in memory of the late, great Randy Fry - the avid abalone diver, fisherman, competitive spearfisher who dedicated his efforts to the rights of anglers and divers.

What: Join us for a fun free diving tournament with trophies for abalone and nearshore rockfish.

When: Saturday, October 11, 2008. Check in begins at 7 AM. Check-out by 1 PM. Where: Ocean Cove Campground on the Sonoma County Coast, north of Jenner at 23125 Coast Highway One. Ocean Cove Campground is at mile marker SON 38.0.

We've reserved a group campsite and encourage participants to join us at Ocean Cove Friday evening. Individual sites are available on a first-come, first served basis, and there are plenty of sites available at nearby state parks.

Why: Because Randy's passion was the sea - Support the Recreational Fishing Alliance and your Freedom to Fish. To join the Recreational Fishing Alliance, go to www.JoinRFA.org.

Entry fee: $35, includes lunch, trophy awards, raffle ticket, silent auction and a chance to win a Kayak (thanks to the Sonoma County Abalone Network). Kayak raffle tickets at $5 each, or $20 for five tickets.

Rules: This is a team event, 2 per team. Each team must check in at Ocean Cove Campground and check out by 1 pm for the weigh in. Trophies awarded for Free Dive Spearfishing and Abalone Diving. Violation of DFG rules, late check out disqualifies.

Cool! I dove Van Damme and had largest fish and third place a while back. Still have the Tshirt. Mike McGuire won that year.

This is a memorial tourney for Randy Fry, and an RFA fundraiser.
Its a great cause and always a good time.

The Van Damme Tourney was a memorial dive as well. Maybe I'm mixing the names up.
Have fun! I miss Ocean Cove and that whole North Coast. This is a great time of the year with indian summer right around the corner.
