Re: SB guys
In theory, it should be going off, but it isn't typically.
Visibility- The vis averages 2-3 feet year round. It is also bordered by two outlets, one by the Bacara walkway and one at "Last Chance Cove" up the coast a few hundred yards. The last time we dove it, the vis was maybe 3 feet, and it was dead quiet, eerily so. The dive was surreal, and ranked very high on the strangest dive list. You could definitely try it out, but don't expect too much. But then again.....

Re: SB guys
never tried diving there personally although i was talking to my diver neighbor and he was telling me that the place has a ton of awesome terrain and is lacking nothing in sea life yet some how it has a knack for staying murky and oily year round
so give it a shot i guess and please post a report if you do but dont expect too much. (forgot to add apparently if you have a quick hand you can bag some pretty good lobsters there as well) |

Re: SB guys
I have made a number of dives there over the years and never hit it really clear. It is no fun to dive in a swell, and really oily if its calm. I dive it periodically because Im sure that its great when its good vis. There are fish there and you will see hook and line guys working it.
I think there are the ruins of another pier on the south side and the end that collapsed at some point. Lots of drilling machines and waste as well. The bottom has a lot old I beams, pipes and rusty cable that make for a interesting dive. The end of the pier has a odd sort of cage/box that is super surgey and trippy to dive in. Be careful on your ascents as there are some metal objects that protrude at odd spots and angles. Watch out for fishing line on the structure, not so much on the pier, but on the bottom. There are also a lot of interesting invertebrates on the pilings. Once you get bored of the murk you can dive the kelp off the north side of the pier and see murk in the kelp too. I think its worth diving, even though Ive never had a great dive there and have been giving it a try since 1986... I should be going more often instead of once or twice a year.
