Question Freediving Computer

Does anyone use a suunto freedive computer? I was considering buying one, or even a mosquito to use for both? Any recommendations?

Clavinr,

I have a Mosquito and love it for the freedive functions.
But if looking for a freedive computer today I'd buy Suunto's D3. It costs less and has a gauge mode for tech diving; but not the scuba/nitrox computer functions that the Mosquito has. (I find the Suunto algorithm to be too conservative for my taste, as have many of their reviewers.)

Suunto Stinger is "top of the line" (decent dive computer, including EAN, gauge mode sampling every 2 seconds and memorizes upto 999 dives-and then resets). The Suunto D3 samples every ONE second AND it counts your surface interval in minutes and seconds (as opposed to Stinger which only counts in minutes). Another advantage of the D3 is you can change the battery yourself (my Stinger is MIA for a battery change at the Suunto rep for more than a month now, grrrr). My advice: if you are going to do only freediving, D3 is the way to go...

I wish I had the talent to dive deep enough to need a freedive computer!

The Mosquito is the best compromise for nitrox and freediving. It does minutes and seconds on SI.

Yes, gauge gives you depth and time. Perfect for tech diving.

You have to buy a Suunto interface to download, but everything can be retrieved from the computer face.

They even keep your personal best dive in the history, so don't loan it out to hot shot freedivers.

I have a review coming out in the new Spearfishing Magazine, due out in about a week.
