I have one of those spring loaded snares made by Equalizer, I have a led light attached in the middle of the shaft. The light points as the tip of the snare loop. I have the light attached with several tie wraps and also wrapped black electrical tape around light and snare to keep it from wiggling. I actually have one of those but didn't even think to bring it. They work pretty good but mine started to "misfire" sometimes. As anybody who has the equalizer knows it hurts like hell if that thing goes off and the handle hits you.

I appreciate all of the suggestions. I'll definitely be night diving again soon with hopefully improved technique. I will probably go out around the next full moon even though I timed it wrong this time. (It was pitch black on the water and the moon was bright and straight over head while I was cleaning the boat at home.)
