Good idea! Looking foward to Oct 15th already. This was my first season w/ crap traps and ended up with about 30lbs of claws. Now I'm hooked on the smelliest/best fishing around.

yeah man, you said it...by the end of summer i usually have half a freezer of skulls and chunks...I find that the bigger the chunk the better the bait too, the crabs have to work at it and that keeps the bait there longer. another tip is too use the foodsaver, then when setting the traps I just poke a few holes in the frozen and vacuumed bag and throw it in the trap...the bags are always there when I pull the trap so I havent littered

Have you found certain dead fish to be better for crabs than others? We've done well using mahi heads and less successful with bonitas. Pigs feet, of course, is the best bet for me so far. I like the idea of keeping the bait in a vacuumed bag but wonder if it does not let out enough stink to attract the crabs.

to be honest i usually have a mix of heads in each bag with a lot of bones and bits. once it thaws out the little stuff will seep out and Iassume attract the crabs while the big stuff stays until the crabs are trying to feed.

each trap is different and I never know if it is the bait or the drop that is making the difference.

I have heard that the oilier the fish the better it will be but i cannot confirm or refute that

Dove the adolphus busch wreck and had about 15-20 feet of vis. Tried to look at the prop and couldnt see past our fins. Looe key, yesterday was about 20-30 and got worse as the day went on. 15mph winds and white capping. Jew fish came up within reach and at least 10 nice grouper taunted me. Took off my freedive fin and measured a black that was longer then it was.
