Well I woke up with a headache and the last thing I wanted to do today was dive. The swell forecast was up and the vis report was 4' but Roy somehow managed to talk me into diving today. I took an advil and sacked it up and the seabass gods were shining upon me today. Got to the spot and the swell was up but the water looked clear.
Visibility was about 15-20 at best and perfect conditions for hunting seabass. After being in the kelp about 20 minutes I took a breath , quietly slipped down and began making my way towards the bottom when suddenly I see the yellow outlines of fins swimming slowly like a submarine directly under me. I took my time lining up, the fish never saw it coming. I hit the fish right above the gill plate from the top and it took off like a rocket. I have shot my fair share of seabass and this thing fought every bit of its weight. I didnt know how big it was until I finally caught up to it and was shocked and stoked. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Took me forever to get the scale perfect and the fish on it by myself but after being bled the fish weighed 65lbs on the dot, measured 59.5", and had a girth of 29.5". Was loaded with roe as I predicted but it had an empty stomach. Thank god for the carter float because swimming this fish to shore would have sucked without the added flotation. I shot the fish with my 55" Daryl Wong Hybrid with a reel and mori slip tip. Feels good to shoot fish that are bigger than your gun
