3/17/09 Marathon - Sharks, TUNA! and AJs

Went after school with "bluewatermagic", his brother and "get h3r done"

The ocean was flat calm.

Only went to the thunderbolt to get some AJs, permit and whatever else.

The vis on the reef was awesome, probably 70ft. But on the thunderbolt there was only about 50ft, it was weird.

Current wasn't too bad on the tbolt either, and lots of fish.

First we get in and there were AJs everywhere, from around 20-30lbs. Alex (bluewatermagic) shoots one right away because it was his first one and it was around 25lbs and the rest of us didn't really want to shoot any so we just passed them up.

Then I shoot a nice permit probably around 20lbs, maybe bigger. But like 5 bulls attacked it and I lost it. And after that the bulls were everywhere, we all got charged straight up so many times. I was really close to shooting one because it was getting way too close.

And then, I was on the boat and I hear them start screaming and I'm thinking another bull is charging them but they scream "TUNA!!!!!!" it turns out they saw a school of Yellowfin Tuna that they say were from 120-150lbs and there was about 10 of them, but they were too scared of losing their guns and everything so they didn't shoot them. It was crazy, we were chumming heavy with pilchards and ballyhoo and they said the tuna were hauling *** west, and they sucked up a couple pilchards and just kept going.

Heres some pictures.

Haha yeah my friends were so mad afterwards that they didn't atleast try and shoot one. But they said they didn't really even have time to think because they were going so fast.

Dude, I feel the same way. They do too now, but they didn't really have time to think about it.

Re: 3/17/09 Marathon - Sharks, TUNA! and AJs

Remember to keep a Yellowfin or Bigeye or even a Skipjack tuna, you need a Federal permit for the boat. It is a 1 year permit. Look it up before you attempt to get one. And this last year they finally allowed spearfishermen to use spears to take tuna, prior to that it was illegal. If you do take one and get caught without a Federal permit, it is a Federal offense and big fines.

Would have been a better story if they would have popped a 100+ pound yellowfin. That story itself is worth any gun they had in the water. Tell your boys to grow a pair.
