La Jolla 4/7/04 and 4/12/04

Late report from la jolla, my first dive wednesday morning after 5 minutes in the water I spotted two nice seabass cruising by, and was able the hit the bigger fish, around 50lbs. Vis was 10'-12', lots of bait around. It nearly emptied my reel to my surprise, and took a long time to get out of the kelp, my first fish from my kayak. Monday I dove until dark, heard some croaking, but vis was only 8-10', most of the bait around was smelt.

sounds like a nice SB...did you get a pic? That's a nice area you were diving in! I envy everything but the water temp. What was the temp by the way?

nice water temps

The temp was about 62 that day, just right for me. I do have some pic, but I do not know how to re-size to fit into this format.

livingwater,

I was wondering how deep those fish were when you spotted them?

fish

They were cruising at a fair rate of speed at about 30', I was down around 25' and spotted them just below and in front of me. Current was coming from the beach, and out of the canyon, it's been that direction for about 10 days now, usually the better direction is from the west. Also of note, of three fish taken the past few weeks, they have been speared just as the tide is starting to come in, from the slack low.
