Be Careful in N.C. Guys! Landlord...seal halves.

I surf a lot from Cardiff reefs to Beacons, and in the last couple of days there have been two sightings of a juvenille 7-8" white that's been "inspecting" surfers. Two seals bitten in half have also washed up on shore at Swamis.

Just saying because I was pretty lax (about carrying fish on me and diving without a buddy) when I dove in North County because there weren't supposed to be any whites up here...well looks like things have changed, so be mindful out there.

Cheers,
David

You don't recall the taxman at Solana Beach a year ago?

There's always a dance going on out there, dress accordingly.

Re: Be Careful in N.C. Guys! Landlord...seal halves.

My buddy is a life guard up in NC and said that today or in the past few days a dead dolphin showed up on the beach with a huge chomp out of it....not sure if the seal was false identification and was said to be dolphin? or what but either what something decided to have a little snack.

anyone ever heard of a GW eating a dolphin? possibly a sick or previous injured one?

Ray,

We're all glad you're still with us; and in one piece. Scary business getting mugged by a momma GWS and then have her come back looking for something bigger for her main course.

Re: Be Careful in N.C. Guys! Landlord...seal halves.

Didn't mean to imply that NC isn't sharky, but I just know from experience that a fair number of people are a little more lax diving here than in LJ. Anyhow, it's not a spoof post, but there really have been many, many, many more sightings/dead critters than I can ever remember in 15 years.

Yes. Makos do it to apparently. Of course, the dolphin may have alreeady been dead, and then gotten chomped too....

A friend of mine is an avid runner and runs from Torry to blacks pretty frequently - says she sees chomped dolphins and seals washed up all the time.
