Freediver Lost

There seems to be several threads closed about a lost freediver...i like others have been at the edge of my seat about this...so i just recently saw this thread:
http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=82313

what is going on? are threads about lost people or accidents banned now, how will we learn? what is the policy on this? I have seen many threads in the past about lost freedivers, why were those threads not closed down then due to privacy and this one is? Did those freedivers did not deserve privacy?Does one have to be a member to close down a thread due to privacy?

prayers sent to the lost freediver and his family;

PS Do not mention name as the tread will be deleted by a mod...

I hear you. I Don't mean to sound insensitive, but it's done, and burying it won't do anyone any good. The family doesn't have to come look here, and I think deleting them is counter productive. Let others learn, and be reminded of the dangers involved in this sport.

I agree completely! No doubt the family is going through excruciating hard times, but it's important that everyone learn as much as possible, and it's good for everyone to be reminded of the risks.

Re: Freediver Lost

Ok, I guess nobody knows, maybe they found him alive and its all over (I hope)...the same day my freediver was lost (last sunday I believe), i was ran over by my diving buddy who was driving the boat. Hit my head but the propeller missed me, it was a freak accident, almost cost me my life...so yes, this whole week I have been obsessed with diver safety...so to hear of a freediver lost and to see that only a few actually give a shit amazes me...

Re: Freediver Lost

I thought I read that they found his weight belt and mask on the bottom, and that a surfer down the coast found part of his wet suit with bite marks. I don't know why other threads were shut down, but if he had been found alive, I'm sure we'd be hearing about it.

The previous threads were closed at the request of a long time Spearboard member. He was a friend of the lost diver, and the victim's family specifically asked that we not air this on the board.

If we get word from the family that it's o.k. to discuss it publicly we'll do it. In the meantime, what little we can learn from this episode will take a back seat to respect for the victim and his family.
