Sunto mosquito

Does anybody else here dive this computer? I'm having trouble figuring out the OLF bar graph.

No, I don't have the mosquito. I've seen them. They are the smallest wrist computers made by Suunto. With Suunto, the graph on the left is normally nitrogen loading, and the one on the right is ascent rate. On the left, you can toggle to oxygen exposure if diving nitrox. But the mosquito may be different.

i have one- only good for freediving. its way too conservative for decompression dives. i love it otherwise. as for the olf, don't worry about too much o2, itll definately let you know when youre too deep.

I dive with the Suunto Vyper. I am pretty sure it uses the same model as the mosquito and from what I've seen, it's REALLY conservative. If you push it's limits, it gets worse.

Diving with a 32% O2 mix, the MOD is 127 fsw at 1.6 atm. compared to 133 feet MOD per the tables. Suunto gets this number by assuming you are verticle in the water collumn and holding the computer over you head. If this were the case, your feet would be at 133 fsw & the computer is 6 ft. above your toes.
This was with the computer set to the most liberal settings.

I recently dove the GroundsKeeper with the deepest depth being 131 fsw. Total dive time, including ascent & a saftey stop, was 25 minutes. My OLF bar was maxed out at 125%. FA dove almost the same profile with his Nitek 3 and was switching to 50% O2 on the way up and only had 1 bar on his OLF when done.

If you want to be conservative, Suunto is the way to go. (As far as I know, they have a "no hit" record for anyone diving as the computer tells them.) If you don't want to sit out every other dive while everyone else is loading their second stringer, buy a different computer.

My $.02
Jeff

I appreciate the input, fellas. Thanks, Jeff, I've heard the Suuntos were conservitave, but holy crap! Yours was the 1st direct comparison I've heard of. Jeez How 'bout the Cochran Commander, any input/experience with these?

i knoiw you guys hate oceanic, but i dive 10-12 dives per week and i love my versa pro. aeris has the same one, just don't know what its called. nice and liberal-lets me decide if i want to be conservative or not.
ex) diving in 180ft, my deco was 16 min on the oceanic compared to 28 on the mosquito, and yes it uses the same algorithm as the vyper.
i don't know cochran too much, but working at the shop, i haven't heard a single good thing about them.
oceanic makes shit regs, uncomfortable bcs, but great computers.

As soon as I find a good deal on a Nitek 3, I'll be buying a new computer.
I understand someone recently aquired one around the area of Aquatic Obsessioins. If I could find this guy, I bet he would make me a great deal...... .....Then I could turn him over to FA for a lesson in why you shouldn't take other peoples stuff

I was thinking about getting the Nitek 3, but opted for the Nitek Plus and I like this two-gas unit. I did some deeper stuff out south of the Elbow and the unit was fair on all my dives. Not too conservative and it is always nice to change out my deco mix in the water with just a button push. I did three dives (first to 185', second to 197' and last to 165') and it stayed a touch bit more conservative than my Solution (thank God) and a little more liberal than my Cochran.

I am not a big fan of wrist units when shooting. But this little baby fit under my high wrist glove and was protected. Only down fall is the small read out on the bottom (mode indicator). I could read it but my eyesight is O.K. Don't know how it would be for others who are older - like me real soon.

I am seriously thinking about getting the Dive Rite Nitek HE. This computer has it all including the Helium factor. It is only supposed to be a c-note more that the closed out Nitek 3 with the recent manufacturing upgrades. If any of you know anything good or bad about this unit, please respond.

Thanks
