Re: La Jolla Benefit tournament--June 27th 2009 in La Jolla

Our benefit tournament is a little over two weeks away! Let's see how many 'yaks and spearos we can turn out at La Jolla.

We're going to have a great time while raising some cash for the PSO. Some exciting things in the works - this is not your average jackpot!

For one, lunch is on Chipotle Mexican Grill - thanks Plastic Navy for the hook-up.

We need an accurate head count to be sure we'll have enough food, so please sign up now. NO PAYMENT NECESSARY! You can bring your $30 sign-up fee to the Shores on the 27th, mail a check, or make other arrangements. Please feel free to contact me via PM.

Sign-ups are here: http://www.diamond-safety.com/signup-form.htm

Nice! The sign-ups are pouring in. Still room for more. Come join us! Please sign up here: http://www.diamond-safety.com/signup-form.htm

Special note for spearos - if you're riding a powerboat to La Jolla, please mail your $30 entry fee in advance. That'll get you out of an inconvenient 4 am stop at OEX La Jolla on tourney day, unless you need some last minute gear. Payment details are on the sign-up page. See you soon!

Re: La Jolla Benefit tournament--June 27th 2009 in La Jolla

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to celebrate La Jolla while raising cash to preserve our low-impact kayak and spear fish access across Southern California.

People are giving generously of their time and donations for the cause. We're still looking for more, so if you have a new or gently used product that is just collecting dust but someone else might treasure, please bring it for our benefit raffle and silent auction.

This is all about the cause, this is a party for everyone in the greater California kayak and spear fishing communities. Businesses from every sector of the sport are chipping in. This isn't a Plastic Navy tournament, nor a BWE event, or a Baytubers throw-down, or a DPKFM get-together... It is all of them and more. If you aren't already on this list, please join us.

Sign up here: http://www.diamond-safety.com/signup-form.htm No payment necessary until tourney day - just bring your low $30 entry fee and donation to the sign-in and go get 'em.

Re: La Jolla Benefit tournament--June 27th 2009 in La Jolla

Come on spearos! There's still time to join us for a show of solidarity on the water in just over a week.

Sign up here: http://www.diamond-safety.com/signup-form.htm Chipotle Mexican Grill is generously providing lunch burritos but has asked us to give them an attendance count a few days in advance. Day-of walk-up entries are welcome but you may have to provide your own eats.

Free divers and any other participant who wants to skip day-of registration at La Jolla Shores can mail a $30 check made out to Keep America Fishing. Please PM for the mailing address:

This is a friendly competition. The boundaries are roughly speaking La Jolla. Let’s call that the north edge of Tourmaline Surf Park to the north end of the bluff that marks Torrey Pines. For free divers only, you can launch whenever you want but cannot fish until 5 am. Weigh in is on the water ONLY from 10 to 11 am near the reserve buoy offshore of La Jolla Shores. The day or two prior I’ll post a VHF working channel and a back-up for support / weigh boat contact, and probably also a cell phone number and GPS #s for the weigh in site.

Party to follow at Standley Park just north of the 52 and east of the 5. Boat parking may be a challenge, so if it is on your way, please consider dropping your trailer first. Festivities / awards should be in full swing by noon and over by 2 or 3.

No sharks, skates or rays; we will weigh one fish only; and please observe other free dive contest traditions.

Any other questions, please feel free to call me again at 858-254-3600. Please look in here a day or two before the event for final details.

If you are signed up already, thanks! Please scare up a few more of your friends. We’re also low on free diver oriented prizes for the benefit raffle. Donations can be brought directly to the post-fishing party.

Thanks again and good luck!

Paul

Bump to fight the MLPA.

Paul Lebowitz has been fighting for your fishing rights for years, I heard him give a talk on the MLPA over 5 years ago. If you read his articles in Western Outdoor News you can see he's still as fired up as ever.

I have other plans for the morning, but might make the potluck. Checks in the mail.

Re: La Jolla Benefit tournament--June 27th 2009 in La Jolla

Thanks Bluesquids!

Here's the latest update - prizes and spearo sign-ups.

We have a nice list of prizes, raffle goodies and auction items for this Saturday's La Jolla benefit tournament. If you haven't already, sign up! Every competitor will get a raffle ticket. More will be available at the event. Funds raised will go directly to the Partnership for Sustainable Oceans and Watermans Alliance to keep our precious kayak and spear fish sites open up and down the coast. Sign up here: http://www.diamond-safety.com/signup-form.htm

First the special prizes:
- Catch of the Day, something good for the best sporting feat
- 75 Hobie duffle bags for the first to come through sign-in
- Bugz Baits, 20 for early Bass Division entries from Kerry Peeler
- A bonus tackle pack for the Big Bass courtesy Andy Wright
- Prize pack for trash from Corey - bring it to weigh in for collection, best effort wins
- An iPod Shuffle for something special from the Loco Pescadores crew

We have two fishing kayaks for auction. Bid now right here in this thread, or contact me via PM. Bidding will end 1 hour after the awards ceremony starts, expected to be around 1 pm but could be as late as 2pm.

A Malibu X-Factor w/ 4 rod holders from OEX Oceanside. This proven fishing machine is a minor blem, but that just means you can take it home for less. Openning bid $600 please. That's about a $200 discount. (Not as pictured, no rudder)

Also for bid, a Pelican Strike Elite 130 fishing kayak - complete with rudder! This is a lower-capacity but nimble craft, a barely used demo model. Yours for as little as $400!

Need a paddle? How about a premium Warner Corryvrecken carbon fiber stick complete with leash, courtesy of David Schroeder? This is top of the line - start the bidding at $200 please.

For shore-side fun we have a Kickbike City Cruiser from Kickbike America. Open at $100

Raffle Prizes! This list subject to change.
A Kickbike City Cruiser from Kickbike America
Swimbaits from Big Hammer
Hobie Sunglasses
Hobie PFD
2 La Jolla Kayak Fishing Surf and Safety Classes
Quantum Kayak Rod from Matt Kim
Quantum Baitcaster from Matt Kim
Candy Catchers from Randy Janusch
10 Hoop Nets from Joe Nguyen
Swiss Army Knife from Greg Tsujiuchi
Sabiki Rod and Reel from Wayne Wilcoxen

UN STICKY THIS POST!

I say un-sticky this post and we'll keep it nice and 'Bumped on the open Cali page.

It will get more views and attention this final week countdown.

Just my opinion.

(I'll keep it nice and 'bumped')
