| All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective. |

Re: Your polespear setups
7ft 60/40 kawabunga. I like this 3 prong mainly because its light, still packs a punch, and its prongs are 2inches longer than the Ohara.
I also have a 3ft fiberglass pole i found in a hole that I use for the kicks. It's got like dried up soft corals and sea weed on it, natural camo. haha Once I can master the 3ft i will use nothing but my knife to kill fish. :P

Re: Your polespear setups
I have a 2 piece 8' Crist spear, but I have a few different things for it. I got a 2' rear section so that I could have the option of a 6' spear. I have a 3" foreshaft for a paralyzer tip, an 18" one for my 6mm tips, and a 15" one for my 5/16" tips. Lots of different combinations
.I used to use a paralyzer a lot, but my chode housemate bent it by letting a garage door close on it. Nice. I also have a 7' aluminum JBL.

Custom 2.5 meter 2-piece, solid 16mm, trot line half-hitch grip, Mori 9/32 slip-tip on ~24" shaft. It's predecessors have proven effective
so I'm excited about this one.

Re: Your polespear setups
Kolt nice grip. I love the fact that a great gun builder like youself has gotten so into polespears. You and Reid really represent for NZ!

Re: Your polespear setups
These are my setups.
Started off with the 6 ft. one piece JBL and JBL stainless paralyzer. Then I got the AB-biller 12 inch flopper that comes with the 6mm threads. Latest addition is the 6 ft. one piece CRIST. It usually has the 18 inch flopper on it, but I have the 3 inch adapter with the 6 mm threads so that I can use the same tips that fit on my JBL. NEXT additions will be an 18 inch threaded shaft for the CRIST and a slip tip that would also fit on my Riffe Euro shafts. Then all I need is some 1/2 inch rubber with a small hole to power up for the Gat-Ku tourney. Jeff |

Re: Your polespear setups
Jeff, I like your "tool kit" holder. I've been trying to figure out a simple cheap way to hold my spare set-screws and allen wrench's.
I would advice either the 9/16" or 5/8" band I carry to power up your spear...come to think of it, didn't send you some 5/8" amber or was it 1/2" amber? Both bands have a larger hole then the 1/8" speargun rubber. |

Re: Your polespear setups
Aaron,
The Tool Kit has the extra set screws in a zip lock. They didn't fall out for the picture. You sent us some 1/2 inch amber. Thanks. We made Many bands and attach our float lines while we imagine BIG fish. I have some 9/16 spear gun rubber that I haven't put on the spear yet. I played around with a section of it and I don't think I can stretch it far enough to get the spear up to speed. Or if I could stretch it, I better see that fish immediately. I'm trying to stay with slimmer 1/2" rubber. But if I can't find any, I'll follow your recommendation on the 5/8 when I order my shaft. I handled some Pelaj bungee material at the Freedive shop (10 mm I think). It has a real small hole and feels pretty powerful. If it doesn't power my big spear, I'm sure it will do nicely on the JBL and I can install it like the stock 3/8". Jeff |
