Re: Anybody here still trust our government?
Incredible, given that GM in the year 2000 was #23 in GDP/Sales, ahead of Denmark, Finland, Saudi Arabia, and Walmart, where did all that mone went?
Of the world's 100 largest economic entities, 51 are now corporations and 49 are countries. Look at: http://www.corporations.org/system/top100.html All this is far too complex for most of us to understand...the only constant is that the value of my money keeps diminishing, there must be some action taken soon...

Anybody here still trust our government?
The answer is "YES". Most of the true believers who voted for Obama still believe. How else can you explain Obama's high approval ratings?

Re: Anybody here still trust our government?
what he said.
Quote:
it sounds so cheesy, but its true- the best way to take action is to educate yourself. The internet is a powerful tool for the masses, information can be distributed on an extremely large scale, for absolutely free. When John McCain didn't know how many freaking houses he owns, that video/info spread like a wildfire online. When Palin couldn't name one news outlet despite being a journalism major in college, that was a defining moment for conservative voters. They realized (along with other things of course) what a blockhead the GOP gave them and were frankly insulted; I was insulted every time that woman winked at me through the television. Yeah... I may not agree with everything she says, but THIS is the best America can give its voters? When Barack Obama flip flopped on FISA, it pissed off a lot of his supporters, most found out about it through the internet. When that photo of Michael Phelps taking a bong hit surfaced, so many pissed off people called Kellogg (because they went way out of line and publicly scolded him) that for a while, when you called Kellogg, it said 'If you're calling about Michael Phelps, press 1. If you're calling about the peanut recall, press 2.' The internet isn't really controlled, yet. Its an ally. Its fkucd up but politicians are on a different level then us, they're above the rest of us because of money and treatment they get from the real players- corporations. They're happy with it like that, they'd rather be comfy in a fkucd up system as long as they're above the majority. We're all in the same boat, and the sooner people realize that, the sooner we're better off. So to answer the original question- do I trust the government?- no. Not at all. I trust the people. But until the people realize what's going and that there's power in numbers- and I hope that happens in my life time- the best I can do is vote for and support certain people that have the people's best interests at heart (imo ).

Re: Anybody here still trust our government?
Nice of the previous administration to pass the buck on this:
REPORT: Cheney says Bush left GM bankruptcy for the next guy The writing's been on the wall for years: GM would have to declare bankruptcy if it had any hope of restructuring in order to survive in the long-term. And though the Obama administration's effective take-over of General Motors was hardly the first case of the government nationalizing a private company, President George W. Bush didn't want to be the one to do it. This, according to former vice-president Dick Cheney, who reportedly admitted in a recent interview on Fox News that the Bush administration floated the $17.4 billion auto industry bailout package in order to give the outgoing administration enough time to exit and for the next administration to settle in before the house of cards in Detroit came tumbling down. According to Cheney, President Bush "decided that he did not want to be the one who pulled the plug just before he left office." http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/09/c...-the-next-guy/

If the Bush administration had allowed bankruptcy for the automakers just before he left office Obama supporters like you would have said "Obama would have saved them". Both the Bush and the Obama administrations should have let Chrysler and G.M. go into bankruptcy without any federal funds. JMHO Please give it a break and quit blaming Bush for the broken promises of Obama!

Re: Anybody here still trust our government?
Exactly what different position would GM be in right now had it gone bankrupt 8 months ago prior to receiving government funds? I don't really understand the rationale that either administration has given for bailing out GM, when in the end they are under bankruptcy protection. The federal dollars were not necessary.

Re: Anybody here still trust our government?
NO, I don't.
The problem IS our government, NOT special interests. None of the special interest groups vote in the house or senate...our county is being run into the ground solely by those 545 or so people, period. No one makes them do anything, they are grown ups just like most of us. They could turn this thing around if they wanted to. Maybe some of them should man up and do the right, hard thing for our county. Our congress and senate were never meant to be lifetime appointments...there should be term limits. The chances of winning against an incumbent are slim.
