Halibut Question
Although I live in santa monica, Im still in school down in UCSD. I just recently (within 2 weeks) got into pole spearing. Ive only been out twice to the cardiff reefs. I shot a couple of crappy surf perch, but I did manage to shoot a sand bass which was very tasty! I was wondering if there is anywhere around the San Diego area thats good for hunting flatties. somewhere easily accessible by car would be nice. thanks!

I dont know many flatty spots but some good pole spear spots are bird rock by mission beach and tourmaline. Used to hit these up before i got the guns. Good bass and sheepheads.

You just stare that big sucker right back in the eye and you remember what old RickDawg always says at a time like that. "Have you paid your dues yet Rick? Yes sir,the check is in the mail." |

Fish4life if you want to go spearing flatties some time let me know. I live in Oceanside. Halibut are great on the grill with a little butter and fresh garlic.

Yeah I would love to go with someone who knows where the fish are
I have a buddy here in school and we both go pole spearing together but were both pretty clueless as to where good places are. As far as places in santa monica, Im pretty sure the best place to go is up in malibu. point dume Ive heard is really good for flatties and other bass. I will be in San Diego for another 3 weeks before I move back to santa monica. just personal message me if you wanna get together.

Halibut
One of the best spots for halibut is almost directly out in front of your campus. Go north about 2 miles from Scripps Pier. 2/3 way to North Torrey Pines. Look around reef to sand area. There are some bigguns out there, you might want to bring more than just a pole spear because you will not hold a legal if he's not stoned. You will just hurt them really badly. That's all I'm giving you. You tell me what you guys find.
Adios! |
