700 mile round trip for abs

Kale gave me a holler before his long drive up from San Luis Obispo, met me at the coast as the sun rose, spent the day in 52 degree water looking for 10 inch abs, found one, and then headed back home in the late afternoon.

Regardless of how you might feel about the younger generation, the kids sure have staying power...

Not too far south of the river mouth...the Gualala River mouth, that is.

Kale's a fun guy to dive with...helped me lug my board down and up the bluff.

He used a 10 inch gauge for the 1st time and observed afterwards, "There's at least a thousand nine-and-three-quarter-inch abs for every ten incher".

That's pretty close to how I see it, too.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I start thinking very often too..and I find the difference between the two gets less and less for me the more dives I do, and the more tired I get, especially if I'm seeing fish and have a gun waiting for me on the board only a few feet away.. I guess you really gotta stay focused on the abs if you want to be a trophy hunter..

That is the key go south of a river mouth or creek that is where the dirty water is and is usually rougher, that is why the big guy's are there, cause most divers wil go to the north corner that is protected from the NW swell and it usyually has better vis then the south. just my 2-cents. Doug give me a call and lets talk about getting a dive together.

Way to go Kale. It takes a big man to mash up from [what I consider] So Cal to grab one trophy snail.

Glad it was a good one, 'cause the State just cut our hunting grounds in half.

Yeah, upon further inspection with the 12" dial caliper at work it turned out to be a couple of female pubic hairs over ten inches (.009"). So yes, we definitely have to head back there again.

We'll all feel the pain there, but I'm thinking that it's gonna hurt "10 inch Matt" extra mucho.

Yeah...I just checked the current map and see that I must have been thinking of an earlier permutation, sorry.

What's not clear to me now is the southern border to the Stewarts Point "no take zone". From the map it looks like it will fall somewhere between Stump Beach and Fisk Mill, but it's hard to tell exactly where. Anybody know how to find out?
