Bad day for old men

Those of you who have become a bit tired of Dam getting the only fish on the boat will be glad to hear that his streak is broken. Unfortunately, it was not me who broke it, but an uppity woman. Geez!

My back has been really bad the last few days, and I almost called Dam and Kelsea to cancel our trip. I hated to back out on them though (no pun intended) so I went ahead with the hope that luck and ibuprofen would win out.

When we got to the spot I found that I couldn't handle getting my booties on, so Kelsea volunteered. I wish we could have taken a photo of her kneeling at my feet showing proper respect for the skipper, but we thought of it too late, and she finished as Dam ran for his camera.

We anchored at the up current end of the bed, but there was hardly any life, so I headed back for the boat. After a while, I saw Kelsea dragging a fish from the other end. She said there was lots of bait and barracuda down there, and when she went clear to the bottom, she found the fish there. A big black sea bass fought her for it, but she landed it and brought it back, where it weighed about 40 pounds.

So we pulled anchor and moved to the other end. Dam and Kelsea went back in with the fish and camera to get some underwater shots, and I took the gun.

The bottom was a bit deep for me. Its a depth where I might get down there to quickly attach a Carter float, but I don't have much time to hunt, but I gave it a try. On the first dive to the bottom, I just had it in sight in the murk and there were two wsb right under me. Those backs are kind of skinny though. I think I grazed one flank on the way to hitting a rock with my slip tip. Shit!

I did maybe 10 more dives to the bottom before deciding it was not in my comfort zone. I was wanting air a bit more than I like when I hit the surface, and no one was there to spot me, so I decided to settle for 30 to 35 foot dives in hopes a fish would come up to me, but none did.

Dam and Kelsea finished the underwater stuff and then got in the boat for the bikini shots for that new speara calender to raise money for our MLPA fight. I'm sorry I wasn't in the boat to help Dam. Its tough duty, but someone has to do it, and he bore up under the load quite well.

I really thought that both of them would get another fish since they can easily hunt at that depth, but no such luck. I finally saw a school of 5 or 6 big (over 30 pounds)yellowtail at 30 feet, but couldn't get a good shot. Dam saw a pair from the surface and Kelsea saw a huge one on the bottom, but they didn't score either.

Outside of occasionally screaming in pain when my back grabbed me, it was a fun trip with a great crew. I'm sure Dam will have a bunch of photos to contribute.
